The Chosen Mate

CHAPTER 10 |

Cole’s POV

I’ve been restless, I know she is my mate even after what happened, it cannot be another thing. Bella was my mate, she told me so herself, and I even felt the tingles with her as well. But I just can’t ignore what happened last night. I saw her under a whole new different light I don’t think I can ever forget. My heart seems to only live and beat for her now, I feel lonely and Cayden is restless, plus he is angry and refuses to talk to me… since I rejected our mate by accident.

The way her body was shivering and curled up in the cold, the sound she made was the most horrible thing I have ever heard. This feeling of guilt seems to grow, bigger and stifling every second passing by.

I wanted to follow them to the medical center but Father and Alpha Richard refused.

“I am her mate I have the right to see her !” My fists are tight, my fingernails almost drawing blood. Alpha Richard is tensed, his aura is telling me to stop talking and mentioning his daughter but I can’t. I have to see her. I was about to open my mouth again when he said,

“You lost that privilege the moment you rejected her, it happened an hour ago if you can recall” he spits with such hate and venom that I instantly freeze. 

“I told you it is all a mistake sir! I am sorry this happened but I have to see her, she is still my mate and it is a mistake !” My voice echoing through the whole house. I wasn’t supposed to make my voice bigger than an Alpha, even if he isn’t my direct one. He doesn’t budge. 

He simply ignores me again and tells Father to sort all of this another time.

Father is trying to keep his composure for all the troubles I caused.

He uses his Alpha tone, knowing it doesn’t work on me anymore, but more than that, I can hear Father truly asking me to stay back for the moment.

It’s not an Alpha talking to one of his members, it’s a disappointed father asking for obedience and respect on this matter.

I’ve been waiting for hours since then, asking my father when we can go back to her pack. He keeps repeating me to wait. I can’t, I can’t wait any longer. 

I sneak out by my bedroom window, run as discreetly as I can towards the forest, and shift.

I can hear my father through our mind link ordering me to come back, spitting threats of not honoring his status and decision. 

Whatever, she’s more important, he can’t do anything now. I will soon enough take the role of the Alpha of the Black Moon pack. I can’t be a proper leader without my mate. 

“Oh.” Is my only reaction to what I just admitted to myself.  

“You’ve finally come to your senses. Idiot.” Cayden groans.

I run, so fast it burns my paws and legs more than ever before. An hour later, I am near her pack’s ground and decide to shift back. I try to be as invisible as possible, hoping nobody noticed my presence. 

As I approach the center, Cayden is getting a bit chattier. 

“You better not mess up again, I can still feel the bond, she’s still with us.” 

“Yeah, I know.”

I can smell Mavis’ scent, it’s intoxicating and feels so familiar. She smells like a sunny day in the country with fields of lavender. It’s guiding me through the halls. It’s embalming all of me, making Cayden purr with joy as I start to get closer to her. But it’s not embalming enough to cover the presence of the other wolf with her. Cayden growls, my fists get tighter and I see red, literal red.

Who the f**k is that bastard with my mate ?! So me, her MATE cannot visit her but some other f*****g wolf CAN ?!

I try to maintain Cayden and prevent him from taking full control and ripping someone’s throat.

“breathe, breathe…” I remind myself. 

I open the door, a little too violently causing it to hit the wall with a loud ‘bang’.

The two heads that were in a cheery conversation suddenly turn to me, both of their expressions getting serious and nervous.

“The hell are you doing here ?!” Yells Henry, blocking Mavis from my view with his body. 

“Well nice to see you too Henry. The f**k are you doing here with my mate? Seems like you don’t know your place, Beta.” I speak with as much restraint as I can, which I can’t.

I move and try to make eye contact with Mavis.

Her eyes are puffy and slightly red, her eyes are melancholic and her skin tone is not as glowy as usual. Seeing her like this, knowing that it’s because of me is sending waves of guilt and sadness into the air. She senses it and turns her small head to me. She has a single white lock of hair on the left side of her head, exactly like her wolf. So it’s not just her wolf… What the hell is that? Her scent is calling me and telling me to hug her and …

Henry is suddenly in the way, he must have sensed it as well. Why is that asshole always here ?!

“WHAT THE f**k WERE YOU DOING HERE HENRY ?” I use my Alpha tone, it may not be as powerful as my father’s but it still has some effects on people. 

I sense the resistance and force he’s using against my command. He’s stronger than I ever gave him credit for. He doesn’t answer but it at least shuts him up.

I look again at Mavis and she doesn’t seem affected by my tone. She’s now shaking and I can’t help but feel guilty again. As I lose some concentration, Henry speaks again,

“You have no right to talk to her, you need a special order since she is in the health center. You lost all privileges last night when you rejected her. You’re not related any...”

“Shut UP! You don’t know what you’re talking about. Mavis is still my mate. The bond is here” I point at my heart. “I can still feel it and it’s getting stronger so stop talking about s**t you don’t know. GET OUT! NOW !”

“No.” She simply says I feel a wave of joy just from hearing her voice. But I don’t have the time to enjoy it, for she tells me, “You are wrong, Cole. The bond doesn’t exist anymore. I don’t know what you are feeling but it is not from me. It is not for me.” 

“No! I know it’s from you. Listen, I know I am the last person you would want to see but I have to expl…”

“I, Mavis Adelaide Turner, accept your rejection.”

“Is it better now? See, nothing has changed. I just accepted your rejection.”

“You can’t! I cannot accept it! I revoke it !”

“You cannot revoke a rejection you asked for!. … Please, just stop already and go back. We all knew Isabella was your mate, this must be a mistake. We sorted it, you rejected me last night, I just accepted it. We are no longer and will never be linked to each other again. Now go, we don’t have any other business to talk about.”

I am speechless. She didn’t do it. I felt her love for me, it can’t be all gone from a simple sentence like that. Then why am I not affected by it? I still feel it. It’s not gone. She’s lying, her eyes are her sweet hazel color, she’s not hiding anything. 

“You’re lying! Mavis, why do I still feel the attraction if you accepted my rejection? We are still linked Mavis I still feel your love, you …” 

“Get out now !”

My whole body froze in an instant. The command is strong, it almost makes my feet turn to the door. 

She looks at me, waiting for me to go through that door, but instead, she squints her eyes, more and more as she is thinking.

“I order you to get out of this room now.”

Her sweet eyes now turn into this icy blue shade, as if looking into a calm but determined river. I have never seen that kind of expression on her face before. Henry is just as shocked and confused as me, he tries to say something but she cuts him off.

“I, MAVIS TURNER, COMMAND YOU COLE WALKER TO GET OUT AND EXIT THE EMERALD FOREST PACK TERRITORY IMMEDIATELY !” 

My mind is filling up with my image going out the door, her voice and command echoing in my head, so loud I can feel it in my bones. 

I didn’t have the time to block it or to even fight back my instinct. My feet obey against my will and I exit the center, as I step the border, I regain control of my body and Cayden is able to speak again.

“What was that now ?!”

“Well seems like she is stronger than you Cole. I don’t know if it’s her future Luna position or her Alpha blood that made you obey but man, she is much stronger than us.”

“What the hell… “ I let a sigh in desperation.

“You saw her hair? The white spot was never there before.”

“Yeah, I don’t know what that is.”

“Maybe we should go back, I’ll ask father about it, right after he beats the s**t out of me.”

I shift again and let Cayden take full control. I just think and think of all the things that happened. I feel relieved that I saw her again but I don’t like this. Everything is getting out of hand; the rejection, I know what I said, it was indeed a rejection, but even after she accepted it, it didn’t work. Isabella is another problem in this equation. Plus her hair is strange. Nobody I know has ever changed a physical feature, apart from losing some weight but never like that. I need to know what’s happening here if I want to get her. 

Ugh… What the f**k is all this...
