I wake up in my room, on the highest floor of our pack house, we have the whole floor to ourselves.
It’s 8:34 am. I have exactly 26 minutes to get ready before going to school.
I get up and head straight to my bathroom, hop in the shower, brush my teeth, wash my hair then get out and dry myself. I tried to hurry, like every morning but I can’t, and start to take my time choosing what my outfit would be until I hear my lil’ brother scream:
“Mavis! Come and get your ass in the car! My goddess, do we need to do this every single morning ?” he whispered the last part to himself but I still hear it with the wolf hearing.
“Don’t you dare complain to me, I know you wait for me to get in the shower before getting up lazy rat!” I scream back.
”I’m coming, count to 30 and I’ll be down!"
I finish putting on my sneakers, take my bag and I am good to go.
I throw a last glance at the mirror; I’m wearing my classic dark blue jeans, a black hoodie and I put my hair up in a ponytail with a white, silk scarf.
A simple line of liner and a lip balm is enough for me.
I soon as take the last step of the stairs, I hear my brother whisper “thirty”.
I turn to his face and stick my tongue out. He just rolls his eyes, gets out of the house and go waits in the car. I’m the one driving so I guess he doesn’t have a choice but to wait for me.
I throw my usual “hello” and “good morning” to our pack members before going and kissing Dad on the cheek, then I excuse myself. I get out and sit in the driver's seat.
My brother is sitting next to me, looking through the window, headphones in. I take the car keys out and start the engine.
It’s kinda slow because it’s an old pickup but I love it. My father gave it to me when I got my license.
I mean, he bought himself a new car and gave me his old one, but it’s enough. I turn on the radio and we are on the road.
As soon as I park the car, Ethan is out but I hear a quick “Have a good day sis’ ’” from him. I smile at him and turn off the engine.
As I close the door, I feel a hand on my head and immediately know that it’s Henry, my best friend. He always does this, I act as if I hate it but in reality, I don’t really mind, at least I know when it’s him.
“Morning lazy ass Mavis, always here at the last minute,” he says near my ear, surprising me.
We knew each other since we were kids in elementary school but we became closer about four years ago, and I can’t even remember why. But since then, we were always together.
“Yeah yeah I know, no need to remind me I already have Ethan scream every morning. Like damn the house is three-floor high but you can still hear him so loud." I let out a small laugh.
"I’m wondering if he doesn't have a mic sometimes,” I say as I take my bag and start walking through the campus and in the hallway.
Henry just laughs, like every morning, and puts his arm on my shoulder as we go into our first class, history.
