I was at home when the phone vibrated. I didn't even know where she was; I was searching like crazy, trying to calm my mind and get the coffee down my throat, which felt like a concrete block. But as soon as JN's name appeared on the screen, my breath caught.
“Urso is in the hill, in the warehouse up top. I imagine you'll want to go, right?”
He spoke with a mocking tone, knowing I wouldn't hesitate.
I didn't even finish reading the rest. I slammed the cup into the sink with such force that it slipped, cracked at the corner, and the damn noise echoed in the empty kitchen. I ran to the bedroom, grabbed my jeans, threw on one of Urso's loose shirts, and tied my hair with my hand, without looking in the mirror.
I went down the stairs with my heart pounding in my throat
