Nicole's narration - continued
"It's already done. Two are coming down now, they're on their phones, scoping things out. Hold on."
I waited. I gripped the steering wheel tightly, my hand was sweating. I saw the two getting off the motorcycles, one circling the side of the hospital, the other heading to the main entrance. They spoke with the security at the gate, showed something on their phone, and returned. One of them looked directly at me and nodded in approval.
I got out with Mrs. Vera. She held her bag against her chest as if she were clutching a piece of her soul. I held her arm and we went inside. Each step echoed in the corridors.
With each door we passed, my heart beat faster. I felt my legs trembling, but I didn't show it. I needed to stay strong. For Mrs. Vera. For Sophia. F
