The referee blew the whistle, announcing the end of the match. Gabriela’s gaze found the scoreboard that showed twenty-five to nineteen. The noises of the gym started coming in again — cheers and laughter, shouts and feet running. It was over. She closed her eyes, letting out a relieved sigh as she wiped the sweat off her brown. Somebody crashed into her, jumping and shouting excitedly as they screamed, ‘We won! We won! We are going forward!’ They had won their second match at the Qualifiers, which meant they had qualified for Sectionals. They had done it. Not that she doubted them, but with her not being in top shape, uncertainty had crept into her mind that they might lose because of her. Maya continued to scream in joy next to her, pulling her into a group hug with Anna and Crystal.
