“Are you ready?” Gabriela smiled, squeezing Kyle’s hand. He stared at the open doors of the gym, the familiar sounds of balls hitting the floor, shoes screeching and people shouting filling their ears.
This was the first time she had seen him so nervous and fidgety. He was always smiling even in the most high-strung situation — during the games, when giving speeches to his teammates, even when it was just the two of them, he had always looked so confident, she couldn’t believe he was just eighteen years old. But looking at him now, she could see the teenage boy that was preparing himself for a scary challenge.
“I’ve been dreading this a whole week. Let’s get it over with!” Kyle sighed, leaning down and kissing her. “Thank you.”
“Brace yourself!” Gabriela grinned, letting go of his hand
