“So this was the last one,” Gabriela said, throwing the last cardboard box on the pile by the door. After the boys had left and Harper had finished asking her about how exactly the pipe burst — and getting disappointed when Gabriela showed her exactly where and how it burst — they had armed themselves with gloves, masks and cleaning solution, and scrubbed the whole place clean. Gabriela had taken the stinky bathroom, trying to get rid of the putrid smell by opening the tiny window by the shower and using all the bleach she had to clean the place. She was used to doing the housework at home, but having Harper’s help felt really nice. The cleaning took longer than expected, especially since Harper wouldn’t stop talking and ask questions or give suggestions on how Gabriela could ‘freshen up
