🥵Apartment 304 ❤️‍🔥: chapter 6

681 Words
The Line He Almost Crossed Ethan didn’t move away. Neither did I. The silence between us felt different now—heavier in a way that had nothing to do with fear. Just awareness. Of him. Of me. Of how close we were. His hand was still at my waist, steady but no longer firm enough to hold me back. More like he was deciding whether he should let go… or pull me closer. My heartbeat felt too loud in my chest. “You should go back inside your apartment,” he said quietly. But his voice didn’t match his eyes. His eyes were still on me. Like he wasn’t ready for me to leave. “Are you always this confusing?” I whispered. A faint smirk appeared at the corner of his mouth. “Only when I care about the answer.” That made my breath catch slightly. Because that sounded too honest. Too real. I should’ve stepped away. I didn’t. Instead, I stayed right where I was. “So,” I said softly, trying to sound normal, “you’re saying you don’t want me here… but you also don’t want me to leave?” His gaze flickered. For a second, something unreadable crossed his face. Then he exhaled slowly. “You make things complicated,” he said. I almost laughed. “I moved into Apartment 304 two days ago. My whole life is complicated.” That earned a low, quiet chuckle from him. The sound did something unfair to my stomach. Ethan finally dropped his hand from my waist—but only to brush a strand of hair away from my face. Slow. Careful. Like he was testing a boundary he knew he shouldn’t cross. “You don’t know what you’re stepping into with me,” he murmured. I looked up at him. “I don’t know anything about you,” I admitted. A pause. Then, softer: “But I still don’t want to leave.” That changed something in his expression. The teasing faded. The distance faded. What was left felt dangerously personal. Ethan stepped slightly closer again—not rushed, not forceful. Just inevitable. “You should stop saying things like that,” he said quietly. “Why?” “Because I might believe you.” My breath caught again. This time, I didn’t look away. Neither did he. The world outside the hallway faded completely—the flickering lights, the empty corridor, the noise of the building. None of it mattered. Just him. Just me. Just the space between us shrinking by seconds. Ethan’s voice dropped lower. “If I kiss you…” he paused, eyes searching mine, “…you won’t be able to pretend this is just curiosity anymore.” My fingers tightened slightly at my side. “I’m not pretending,” I whispered. That was all it took. The last bit of distance between us disappeared. His hand came up gently to my cheek first—warm, steady, almost like he was grounding himself. Then he leaned in. Slow. Deliberate. Giving me every chance to stop him. I didn’t. Our lips met softly at first—careful, uncertain, like both of us were still deciding what this meant. But it didn’t stay careful for long. The moment I leaned in slightly, his restraint broke. The kiss deepened. Not rushed. Not chaotic. Just intense in a way that made my entire body go quiet except for him. Like the world had narrowed down to one thing. Ethan. When we finally pulled back slightly, he didn’t move far. Neither did I. His forehead rested lightly against mine. And for the first time, his voice wasn’t teasing or guarded. Just honest. “You’re trouble,” he whispered. I smiled faintly. “You started it.” That earned a low breath of a laugh from him. And even though neither of us said it out loud… something had already changed between us. Apartment 304 wasn’t just a place anymore. It was where I met him. And where nothing in my life was going to stay the same again. ---
