Chapter ThreeA Warrior’s Promise

868 Words
The Moonlight Pack was in complete chaos. Servants rushed through the enormous pack house carrying decorations, flowers, and trays of expensive wine while warriors patrolled the territory more heavily than usual. In only two days, Alpha Lucien’s coronation celebration would begin. And for the first time in years— The Immortal Wolf King would attend. “Move faster!” Beta Clara’s sharp voice echoed through the servant hall. Katerina quickly carried another basket of laundry toward the northern rooms. Since sunrise, she had barely rested for a moment. Her body ached. But complaints meant punishment. So she stayed silent. As always. “Katerina!” She turned as Lena hurried toward her with wide eyes filled with excitement. “He’s back.” Katerina frowned slightly. “Who?” Lena looked offended. “The royal warrior you always talk about!” Katerina blinked in surprise. Kai? Before she could respond, footsteps approached from behind. “You still work too hard.” Katerina froze instantly. That voice… Slowly turning around, she came face to face with Kai Ravenwood. For a brief moment, she forgot how to breathe. Six months had changed him. The boy she remembered now looked sharper and stronger. Black clothing marked with the silver crescent symbol of the Immortal Wolf King fit perfectly against his tall figure. A royal warrior. One personally chosen by the Immortal Wolf King himself. But despite everything— His eyes toward her remained the same. Gentle. “Kai…” she whispered softly. A small smile appeared on his face. “You remembered me.” Lena nearly choked dramatically. “Remembered you?!” she exclaimed. “You disappeared for half a year!” Kai laughed quietly. “I was working.” “You could’ve sent a letter,” Katerina said softly before realizing how personal that sounded. Kai noticed too. His expression softened. “I wanted to.” For a moment, silence settled between them comfortably. Katerina suddenly remembered being twelve years old, crying quietly behind the pack house after several children bullied her for being an omega. Kai had found her there. And instead of mocking her like everyone else— He sat beside her silently and shared half his bread. From that day onward, he stayed by her side whenever he could. Even after becoming stronger than everyone around him— Kai never changed toward her. “You became a royal warrior,” Katerina said quietly. Lena still looked shocked. “That’s not just any position,” she whispered dramatically. “Do you know how important that is?!” Kai rubbed the back of his neck awkwardly. “It’s just work.” Lena stared at him. Katerina laughed softly. Somehow Kai remained humble despite everything. Then Kai noticed the bruises near Katerina’s wrist. His expression darkened immediately. “What happened?” Katerina instinctively hid her hand. “Nothing.” Kai’s jaw tightened. He knew that answer too well. Before he could ask further— A playful voice interrupted them. “So this is the omega you kept worrying about.” Katerina looked up in surprise. A tall man with ash-gray hair and golden eyes leaned lazily against the hallway wall. Unlike the intimidating royal warriors outside, he looked strangely relaxed. Dangerously relaxed. His eyes sparkled with amusement as he observed them. Kai sighed immediately. “Damian.” Lena whispered beside Katerina in panic. “That’s the Beta!” Damian Nightfang. The Beta of the Immortal Wolf King. One of the strongest wolves in the kingdom. Katerina immediately lowered her head respectfully. “Welcome to Moonlight Pack, Beta Damian.” Damian blinked slightly before smiling. “Well, aren’t you polite?” His gaze shifted toward Lena. “And loud.” Lena gasped dramatically. “I’m not loud.” “You shouted three times in one minute.” “I was surprised!” Damian chuckled softly. Katerina stared quietly. This man was far different from the terrifying rumors she heard. Damian noticed her watching him. Then his sharp golden eyes narrowed slightly. Interesting. There was something strange about this omega. Her scent felt… Different. Before he could think further, Alpha Lucien suddenly entered the hallway surrounded by several warriors. The atmosphere instantly became tense. Lucien’s golden eyes landed on Kai first. “You returned,” Lucien said calmly. Kai nodded respectfully. “Alpha Lucien.” Lucien’s gaze then shifted toward Katerina. And annoyance immediately appeared on his face. “Why are you standing around?” he snapped coldly. “Do omegas no longer work in this pack?” Katerina quickly lowered her head. “My apologies, Alpha.” Kai frowned slightly. Damian noticed immediately. Interesting again. Lucien smirked faintly after noticing Kai’s reaction. “How amusing,” he said coldly. “A royal warrior concerned about an omega servant.” Katerina’s chest tightened. The hallway became uncomfortable instantly. But Kai answered calmly. “She’s my friend.” Lucien laughed softly. “An omega?” The insult hung heavily in the air. Katerina looked down silently, already used to those words. But Kai’s voice remained firm. “Yes.” For the first time— Someone important said it proudly. Not with shame. Not secretly. Katerina slowly looked at him in surprise. And Damian noticed everything.
