Chapter Thirteen: Leaving Moonlight Pack

801 Words
Leaving Moonlight Pack The next morning, Moonlight Pack was filled with rumors. Servants whispered in every hallway. Warriors discussed nothing else. Nobles looked both curious and horrified. The Immortal Wolf King had chosen an omega. Not a noblewoman. Not a powerful she-wolf. An omega servant. And tonight, before returning to the royal territory, Ethan would officially present Katerina as his mate during the farewell banquet. Katerina herself sat quietly inside the royal chambers while Lena paced around the room dramatically. “This is insane,” Lena whispered for the tenth time. “You’re becoming royalty.” Katerina immediately shook her head. “I’m not becoming royalty.” “You literally got claimed by the most powerful wolf alive.” “That still sounds unreal.” Lena suddenly grabbed her shoulders. “Katerina, listen carefully.” Her eyes became unusually serious. “You deserve happiness too.” Katerina froze slightly. Deserve. That word still felt unfamiliar. Before she could answer— A knock echoed through the room. Damian entered casually carrying several folded dresses behind him with two servant women following nervously. The moment Lena saw him, she straightened instantly. Damian noticed immediately and smirked. “Still terrified of me?” “I’m not terrified.” “You almost jumped into the wall.” “I lost balance emotionally.” Damian laughed softly. Katerina watched them quietly. Their strange conversations somehow made the room feel lighter. Damian gestured toward the dresses. “For tonight’s banquet.” Katerina’s eyes widened immediately. The dresses looked far too expensive. Silver embroidery shimmered beneath the sunlight while soft fabrics flowed elegantly across the chairs. “I can’t wear those.” “Yes, you can,” Damian answered instantly. “But they’re beautiful.” Damian blinked once. “That is usually the point of dresses.” Lena snorted loudly trying not to laugh. Even Katerina smiled slightly. Victory. Damian mentally celebrated seeing her smile again. Then his expression softened slightly. “The royal territory can be cruel,” he admitted quietly. “Especially toward outsiders.” Katerina’s nervousness returned immediately. “But,” Damian continued calmly, “you won’t face it alone.” His golden eyes shifted briefly toward Lena. Then toward Ethan’s closed office doors nearby. “The king already decided something interesting.” Katerina frowned slightly. “What do you mean?” Before Damian could answer— The office doors opened. Ethan stepped out calmly followed by Kai. The atmosphere shifted instantly the moment the king appeared. His blue eyes immediately found Katerina. Always her. “You’re coming with us,” Ethan said suddenly. Katerina blinked in confusion. “I know.” “Not you.” Ethan looked toward Lena. Lena froze completely. “Me?” Damian grinned immediately. “Well, this became convenient.” Katerina looked shocked. “You want Lena to come to the royal territory?” Ethan nodded once. “You trust her.” Simple. Direct. As if that alone explained everything. Katerina stared at him speechlessly. Nobody had ever cared about her comfort enough to consider something like this before. Lena looked equally stunned. “I-I can’t just leave Moonlight Pack!” Kai crossed his arms calmly. “Why not?” Lena pointed dramatically toward herself. “Because I’m an omega servant!” The room became awkwardly silent. Katerina looked down instinctively after hearing the familiar words. But Ethan’s cold voice broke the silence immediately. “Then Moonlight Pack does not deserve either of you.” The words stunned everyone. Even Damian looked impressed. Lena’s eyes widened slowly. Katerina felt her chest tighten painfully again. This terrifying immortal king kept saying things nobody else ever would. Then Damian stepped beside Lena lazily. “Besides,” he said lightly, “someone needs to stop me from dying of boredom at the palace.” Lena stared at him suspiciously. “You’re weird.” Damian placed a hand dramatically over his heart. “And yet you keep talking to me.” Kai sighed tiredly. Katerina almost laughed again. Then suddenly her smile faded slightly. Leaving. This was really happening. Tonight would be her last night in Moonlight Pack. The only place she had ever known. Ethan noticed the fear returning to her eyes. Without hesitation, he walked toward her slowly. Then gently— He placed one hand against her cheek. Warm. Careful. Protective. “You’re overthinking again,” he murmured quietly. Katerina’s heartbeat quickened instantly. “I’m afraid.” For a moment, silence filled the room. Then Ethan spoke words that made her chest ache softly. “Good,” he said calmly. Everyone looked confused. Even Katerina blinked. Ethan’s thumb brushed softly beneath her eye. “It means you still understand how important this moment is.” His blue eyes locked onto hers intensely. “But this time, you won’t face it alone.”
