Lyra The bond between Maddox and I was sizzling away under the surface, just waiting to be completed, but I couldn't think about that right now. Maddox was sitting with Atlas talking, and I slipped out to the pool area with a drink. I loved the quiet of the night here, no outside noise except the sound of the ocean and every now and again some wildlife. I had to get back to the mansion, I had to get Kalesa and Dollar out of my father’s clutches. I was tempted to call my mother, but she was so blinded by her tie to him, she allowed him to behave in any way he wanted as long as he still showered her with his attention and bullshit.
