The next few days went by in a flash. Eve was clearly trying her best to fulfill everything expected of her, but her jokes were less often and felt a bit forced. I could tell that she definitely wasn’t okay but that she was doing everything in her power not to appear that way. I tried to ask her about it, but she made some nonsensical comment about not eating enough pancakes. I figured that if she wanted to talk about it, she knew I was always there for her.
Eve was barely responsive that weekend, and I figured that was a good thing. That told me that Josh was doing his job as her partner and keeping her happy. When she returned on Monday, she seemed just a little more herself and I was pleased to see that I was right. Thanks Josh!
