I got a text from Evelyn when she was on her way back from visiting Josh. I was expecting an ETA, and was unprepared for the text I actually got.

I leave the room, shutting the door behind me before I sigh audibly. I know they mean well, but I don’t really like the way they talk about Josh. I’m upset and everything, but they don’t understand. I love him, so if it’s a simple misunderstanding, I don’t want to give this up. He really could be my mate, so I’d be stupid to leave him before even hearing his side.
I dial Josh’s number and wait for him to answer. “My treasure. I love you. Thank you for letting me explain everything.”
“Hi” is all I say and wait for him to continue.
