Chapter 11 : Sleeping Pills

1012 Words
"The movie was good but I expected better from a production with such a big budget -" "I liked the popcorn more than the movie -" "Did you see that girl sitting next to me? She was so hot! I was watching her instead of that movie!" Naomi heard all sorts of comments on her way out of the theatre. The movie was okay, she did not care about it. She was here solely to relax and spend some time outside, so it did not matter if the movie was life-changing or not. Vienna, however, was full of praise for the show. It was natural to feel tired and hungry after spending the day outside. Naomi wasn't any different from the direct definition of normal. Her body's hunger cue was very obvious. And right now it was asking for something cheap and satisfying. "Let's get McDonald's." Vienna wasn't expecting her to say that. They were going to eat at home, weren't they? "Miss, dinner will be prepared at home." "I told Marvin that we would be back after dinner. They won't be expecting us," Naomi smiled and winked, "We will have McDonald's and finish off the day perfectly." The driver took them to the nearest McDonald's and they ordered from the drive-thru. They got the food in the car and started devouring it. Even Vienna, who was initially against the idea of junk food, was thoroughly devoted to the burger in front of her. It was indeed a perfect day after she took a huge bite out of that burger and a slurp of iced coke. McDonald's was the only thing in the world that gave Naomi the same amount of satisfaction as the first and last bite. By the time they finished savouring the food, they were already driving into the gate of the manor. The golden lights all over the estate were blinding to the eyes who had never seen the luster of money. Naomi had been living in the manor for a couple of days but never saw it in this way. At night, the white walls were brushed with gold and the entire manor closed off in a cold silence. It was a beauty on its own. A beautiful cage worthy of holding a beauty like Juliette. Naomi was quite happy to get back to it. She got out of the car in front of the door, followed by Vienna. The clicks of her heels were the indication of her arrival. She did not have to knock on the door, as someone had already opened it for them. "Miss," Vienna called, suppressing her yawn, "It's quite late." Naomi laughed, "Yes, so go to sleep. I am going to retire for the night as well." Vienna nodded, "Yes, Miss! Have a good night's sleep!" Naomi paused her steps and turned back, "Vienna, come here for a second." Vienna was already standing close to Naomi. Upon being called, she stuck to Naomi and listened closely to what she had to say. "Yes?" Naomi tilted her head to whisper into her ear, "Do you happen to have any sleeping pills with you?" Vienna frowned and shook her head, "No, Miss. Why do you want them?" Naomi smiled and shook it off, "I've been having trouble falling asleep. Thought pills would help. It's not important. Ask someone to get me a glass of warm milk with honey." Vienna was still unsure but nodded anyway. Juliette was a good sleeper and took at least one nap a day and still slept like a baby every night. Why would she feel the need to take sleeping pills now? Something must be stressing her out to the point where she was awake at night. Vienna thought about it on her way back to her quarters. She couldn't think of any other reason. Just one. The fact that she is no longer in love with Master Marvin. It isn't easy giving up on love, especially when you have been in love for a long time. She must be having a lot of difficulties dealing with her heart. Hence, the sleepless nights. Vienna felt bad about it but she wasn't knowledgeable about medicine nor in love, hence she was helpless in this situation. She could only ask the kitchen staff to deliver warmed milk to the room and go back to her quarter to sleep. In the Alpha's manor, there was rarely anything that the Alpha wasn't aware of. However, today he had the rare experience of being kept in the dark for the entire day. The only piece of information he knew was that Juliette was out shopping, might go to see a movie and get a massage. He did not know when she would be coming home. If he had known the specifics, he wouldn't have left his room right when she was going upstairs. The two met at the top of the stairs. Naomi scanned him with her eyes and smiled lightly without humor, "All better now?" Marvin cleared his throat, "Yes, the doctor's ointment is quite good. My body doesn't hurt anymore." He was dressed in a set of comfortable clothes, while Naomi had just come from outside and was tired. The more she looked at him, the more she desired to throw herself on the bed and float into a good sleep. It wasn't impossible if this man would only let her pass by him.. "Alpha, do you have something to ask me?" Naomi asked after being blocked twice. Her eyes were burning slightly. Marvin pretended as if he was just casually asking, "Did you have dinner? Since you are here, let's go and eat together." Naomi refused, "I ate outside. I'm quite sleepy so I will be going to bed now. Thanks for the invitation though." Marvin couldn't block her this time. She went past him and the clicks of her heels were the only thing echoing in his ears. He ate dinner alone again. The sound of spoons hitting the plates was the only sound heard in the dining hall.
