Chapter 14 : Noodles of Death

1011 Words
Naomi fell back on the bed after rushing upstairs. She was afraid that if she stayed there a minute more, something bad was bound to happen. It did not help that she was starting to see kitchen items as weapons already. How dare he talk like that? Is getting sick something you can control? And even if she did get sick, she would run to him to heal her! Naomi had spent countless periods of sickness all alone while her mate was busy cheating with Ella. She had seen worse things. A cold was not a matter of concern for her. But the remnant of Juliette inside her wouldn't stop hurting! The smallest part of Juliette was still in her heart that harboured a place for Marvin. It showed up all that often when that man was around and would give Naomi the biggest ache of all time. Not physically but emotionally. It was in control most of the time. But today she felt her eyes water due to his words. Naomi knew she wasn't a weak woman. But Juliette was. It took a while to calm down. Naomi stood by the window to feel the cooling breeze. The breeze carried a faint scent of grass in it which was helpful in bringing back the calmness in her. "It's alright," Naomi told herself, "That man has no influence on your life. And you spend his money. Treat him as a sponsor. Don't get hurt." She repeated those words a couple of times when her heart finally settled down. The dull ache was reduced and she could finally remember the hunger. Naomi went back to bed and rolled on it. The softness of the bed did not help with her hunger. It was getting bad to the point where she thought her stomach was contracting! Just when Naomi was about to start another crying session, someone knocked on the door. In a fit of anger, Naomi first threw a small pillow at the door and then got up to see who could possibly come to her door at two in the morning! The pillow was picked up and thrown back on the way to the door. She opened the door but no one was there. Naomi's straight face was so calm that it was scary. She chuckled and shook her head. If anyone saw her right now, they'd think she was possessed by an evil spirit. "Why are you laughing like this, Miss?" A timid voice came from the side. A small girl was standing there with a tray in her hand. The girl was small in size and not aged. Marvin does not employ minors. The girl's shoulders were up in fright as if Naomi's behaviour had scared her. "Did you knock on the door?" Naomi asked her. But the real focus of her attention was the tray in her hand. There was a bowl on it and the bowl was covered with a plate. On the side was a fork and spoon. Her mouth watered without even knowing what was inside. The mere idea of food brought her to this. "Yes, I was told to bring you something to eat. The tray was heavy so I kept it on that table to knock on. I went there to get it back." It was a perfectly reasonable explanation. Naomi couldn't blame her for this disturbance, especially if she brought food! Naomi took the tray with a smile. She hadn't eaten the food but her mood was already so good. The girl who brought the food looked a bit concerned about her. "Thank you for the food and sorry for scaring you. I was having a bad day," Naomi almost went back inside when she remembered to ask, "By the way, did Marvin tell you to bring this to me?" The girl hesitated before nodding, "Yes, it was Alpha." "Alright. You can go now." The girl left and Naomi closed the door. She placed the tray on the bed and uncovered the bowl. It was a steaming bowl of instant noodles! Who would have thought something like this existed in Alpha's manor? It was comfort food! Naomi immediately picked up the spoon and stirred the broth and took it into her mouth. The sweet and spicy aroma reached her nose. She was about to put the spoon in her mouth when suddenly she stopped and sniffed the broth again. Then, she picked up the bowl and sniffed it. The aroma was familiar. Something told her that it wasn't the noodle smell that was familiar but something else. But the hunger inside her was taking over her judgement. She picked up the spoon again and drank from it. The next morning, Vienna came knocking on the door of her room but no one answered. Vienna's thoughts went back to last night when Naomi told her about her sleep issues. She wanted to let her sleep some more but there wasn't much time. She had an appointment with the bakery to taste test the cake for Alpha's birthday party! Vienna knocked on the door again but still no one answered. She went downstairs to get the spare key for the room and decided to wake her up personally. She opened the door and saw Naomi leaning back on the bedframe. Her legs were crossed and her back was resting on the headrest. Her hair was covering her face as she slept. In front of her was an empty bowl with a spoon and fork. She ate late at night? And why were the bowl and tray still on the bed? Something was off... Vienna frowned and went to wake her up. Naomi was so still that Vienna felt a chill in her heart. She shook Naomi's shoulder and watched her fall to the side in a fluid motion. She did not wake up even after falling. Her hair was parted and revealed her pale face and lips. The sight sent a tremor through Vienna's heart. She dropped the key in her hand and screamed.
