Julian woke up the following day and felt mortified after realizing he had fallen asleep with Anthony on the line. Luckily, he had spent the night at Rhey's, and the triplets drew him from his sorry thoughts.
It also happens that Gerald, Tommy's father was rushed to the hospital, which automatically meant that Julian was the designated babysitter as Tommy and Rhey left to be with Nora. It was an uneventful day, and the one after that, and before he realized it, a week had passed without a word from Anthony. Julian contemplated calling or texting him a couple of times, but he didn't know where to begin.
“Hi, this is the guy who snored your ears off.” He mused in frustration. But what actually bothered Julian, was the fact that his mate had acted like a take-charge kind of guy, and he couldn't help but wonder if sleeping on him put him off.
'Call him already,' his wolf growled in agitation. After a week of hearing his human whine, the wolf had enough. But of course, Julian was adamant.
Two days later, Ethan, Antony's son, didn't show up to school, which was so unlike him. That gave Julian an excuse of calling his mate without feeling like he was creeping the human out with his clingy-ness. Anthony picked after the second ring, “And here I was thinking you've forgotten all about me, beautiful.” Anthony teased with his deep baritone, which washed over Julian's needy self, making him shudder to the toes. He thanked Luna it wasn't a video call, otherwise, Anthony would have been amused at how easily he reddened.
“How are you?” Julian asked instead, commending himself for holding a steady tone, despite how jumbled he felt inside.
“I can't complain, just missing you,” Anthony replied smoothly, throwing Julian off his tracks for a second, and that angered him. It made him feel like his mate was just toying with him.
“Yeah?” He growled, “if you missed me so much, how come you didn't try to reach out?” Anthony was surprised by the outburst, and Julian was even more surprised. He felt mortified to an extent of hanging up even before Anthony could defend himself. He didn't even get to ask about Ethan before he began acting like a jilted lover. Julian thought grimly. He was in the process of shoving his phone back in his pocket, when it blasted loudly startling him for a second. It was Anthony. Julian contemplated not picking up, but realized how stupid he will look. He already felt stupid for hanging up, and thought that perhaps picking and giving a bullshit excuse of network issues might save him some embarrassment. With that thought in mind, he answered.
“Never hang up on me again, beautiful.” Anthony roared throatily, stunning Julian, by how dangerous he sounded. “Understood?” Julian found himself nodding though the man couldn't see him before he offered a meek, okay. A silence hung over them. Anthony cursed himself for going all dominant on the unsuspecting man. He had the grace to offer a quick apology without any sort of explanation for his behavior. He then went ahead and told Julian that the reason he hadn't reached out was because he wanted the next time they talk to be face to face, but he had been held up by his father's hospitalization and wanted to wait until everything calmed. Julian apologized, feeling dumb for assuming the worst. Anthony, however, didn't let it go. He insisted on knowing why Julian was angry with him.
“I felt like you were just toying with me.” He mumbled faintly. Anthony heard him clearly.
“You will know when I play with you. Trust me.” The double meaning was lost to Julian, who didn't know about his mate's lifestyle. They ended up talking about the happenings of the past week and Julian even got to ask about Ethan and was told the boy was spending the day with his grandfather, who had been discharged the previous day.
“Would you like to go on a date with me tomorrow?” Anthony blurted calmly. After all, it would be a weekend, he thought, hoping his son's teacher will say yes.
“Are you sure?” Julian asked hesitantly, making Anthony chuckle.
“You are asking if I am sure I want to go on a date with you?” Anthony asked incredulously, like Julian's question was the most absurd thing he has ever heard.
“Yes…?” It was more of a hesitant question from Julian.
“Of course, I would like to go on a date with you,” Anthony muttered drawing a smile out of Julian before he added. “What about you, beautiful, do you want to go on a date with me?” He asked, not sounding as confident as he had, just a while ago.
“Very much,” Julian blurted instantly, making Anthony let out a relieved chuckle.
“What time will you be available?” Anthony asked,
“Around eight pm,” Julian answered. His last class would be at six pm, for he will be giving a make-up test, and then he has to go home and freshen, which will take at least an hour.
“Where should I pick you up?”
“No need for that.” Julian almost shouted before adding in a calmer voice, “text me the location and I will be there.” Anthony didn't miss his reluctance.
“Are you perhaps married, and you want to avoid being seen with me?” Anthony teased. Julian assured him he was very much single, and he wasn't afraid of being seen with him. They talked for a while, and after promising to see each other the following day, Anthony hanged up the phone. Julian was left freaking out about what to wear, and how to keep himself from jumping onto his mate's bones.
'I have waited a long time to meet our mate, I just never thought we would be the ones playing damsel.' His wolf taunted with a chuckle. Julian slumped on his chair and gazed around the empty classroom. His students had left about thirty minutes ago. About the same time, he had called Anthony.
'How the hell am I supposed to go about this?' He groaned. 'If you have smart ideas, now is the time, buddy,' he told his wolf with a defeated sigh.
