She watched him as he had just signed to her.
She was still wondering how he could sign so well as from the way he looked he didn’t seem like someone who could have just learnt how to sign that perfectly.
“What’s your name?” he asked her slowly, hoping she was just going to respond to what he had asked without feeling like she was trouble to him.
She had a feeling of fear. Something deep within her bugged her from trusting him, but from the way he had behaved from the days she had been there, maybe it was wise she just trusted him, right?
They had been together for like two weeks yet he had not forced her to tell him her name and he was steadily making sure she fine and not wanted to force her to do something which she didn’t want to do.
Looking down at her hands she fiddled for a moment, she just felt somewhat happy as for sure she could not remember the last time someone had asked her what she was called, somehow this was emotional to her, she looked at him and the look in his eyes somehow showed how comfortable he was.
“Nathalia” she signed back as she spelt the name slowly for him to know what she was called.
“You have such a beautiful name” he signed back to her, hoping she believed him because indeed her name was beautiful and he loved the name already.
He began to grin like a childish wolf that had just seen a wolf for the first time.
He then looked at Jacqueline before turning to her again, “My name is Xavier Hills, and I am sure Doctor Jacqueline has already told you this, right?”
She nodded her head as even before he wanted to tell her his name she had heard him saying it and well her father had always discussed about this Pack from when she was growing and her father had mentioned the name so many times so yes she knew he was the Alpha of the biggest yet most powerful to exist.
“Oh! So you know about my Pack?” he signed back to her with a smile on his face.
“Yes I do, my father used to tell us stories about your pack and how you fought all the troublesome packs and always brought justice, when I and my sister was growing” she explained.
She looked at him still yet her PTSD doing the worst to her thinking, she was thinking too much at this point, why had he not killed her the same day he had met her in the forest behind that tree? Why had he taken her back to his pack, and now he had been taking care of her?
For sure at this point it felt like she was a burden on whoever took upon themselves to make her feel fine because well the rogues had forever made her know she was a burden and didn’t deserve to be happy.
“Nathalia, why were you on my land days back and not running away from me?” he now asked, and from the look on his face, he had no emotions held there anymore.
He had been nice, but when he asked that question for sure, his face held some hate, and she knew this was probably the end of her.
How was she going to explain to him that she had been running from those who were going to kill her if they found out that she was running away from their hate and problem?
“I didn’t know I was on your land I was just running away to a safe and far place I am sorry” She rapidly signed bad to him hoping she could run away from the tension that came with the question he had just asked besides she had noticed that his facial expression was now very firm and he sure looked like someone who didn’t like being confused when asking a question.
“That doesn’t answer my question Nathie, answer the question” he signed back this time his face and the way he ended the sign carrying mixed emotions she didn’t know if he was angry or indeed if he just wanted her to answer the question so he could know why she was on his land.
Well! Deep down, she still was conflicted on how she was going to respond, but from the question, she sure had to respond. If not, she just might be maltreated here and maybe sent out.
If sent out how was she going to deal with the world when she was just trying to survive now in the beautiful pack and hoping they could reclaim her as a wolf and not as the rogue they had all termed her to be.
“I ran away” she signed back this time a little slower than when she had been discussing before.
And she bit her lips nervously; not knowing if she was saying she had run away would have caused him to think she was some bad luck.
Besides, she had come up with a problem of not hearing, and now she is saying she had run away.
“Okay, so just one question do you know what happens to rogues when they trespass into the wolves' land and pack?” he asked her, and this time, she knew she was doomed because these questions were probably leading to her dying.
She had said it from two weeks ago, maybe after she had felt better and he took her out for that stroll maybe he wanted to go show her the spot where she was going to be killed for being a rogue who had come into their land but yet she had become frail and had collapsed and had not given him the big to go he needed to take her out.
Her life for sure was never going to be what she thought it would be and maybe if they killed her as they did to all rogues then maybe, just maybe she could find the peace she needed at the place where rogues where taken.
She looked down this time, nodding her head, and Jacqueline not talking but looking at Xavier with pleading eyes as she didn’t want to exhaust the energy the young lady had just gotten from resting.
She knew he was going to beat her up and maybe keep her in somehow the same room she had been in the rogue land for her to be their laughing stock.
She closed her eyes, waiting for the first hit or something that would hurt her skin.
But instead, she heard nothing. No words were said, just her breathing in and out and waiting for his guards or servants to put her in a position of punishment.
He walked closer to her and used the back of his hand, and rubbed her jaw line, causing her to open her eyes because she was confused.
She was not expecting him to be this super nice and comforting to her, instead him being nice to her somehow caused her heartbeat to rise because this could simply still just be a ploy to make her weak and then she being hit when she was not expecting it.
This moment was a moment of emotions as his eyes for sure looked at her lovingly, hoping he could share the pain she had in there and hoping she could take him to who had hurt her the way they had hurt her.
Then boom! His face went back to being cold and distant. He had an emotionless and neutral face, causing even more confusion as she didn’t know what to do right now.
“Why are you nice to me? I expected a slap or beating to enter your land without a person?” she asked as she looked at him, her eyes furrowed with streaks of stress mark.
She was fighting back the tears that was struggling to pour down her eyes waiting for an answer from him, just maybe a reason as to why he was treating her this way, she had felt love and want for the first time in a long time after her parents but still the man before her was giving her mixed emotions.
And after she signed asking him why he was treating her nicely, he didn’t give her an answer but rather he turned and was focused on Jacqueline as she watched their mouth move, she had hearing aids but with the way they were talking for sure she couldn’t hear properly, but a hint from his lips, “Lets treat her proper she has indeed gone through a lot, I can’t believe she was waiting for me to hit her cause she was found on my land” he said.
She could bring out the worry that string his lips but not entirely what he had said.
“You and your family are one of the feared packs known to our kind as wolves or maybe I am not the wolf” She chimed in sign, “But yet I trespassed and you won’t call me to order? Please if possible just treat me and give me a hearing aid and I can go find some place and stay there but don’t treat me bad I beg of you” she signed and ended it with a sorrowful sign at the end.
Well, to Jacqueline, nobody could see it, but she had a tear that had dropped, and she just was cleaning it, so the Alpha was not going to take heed of it.
She was one wolf who never loved showing the male wolves that she was weak and could be vulnerable around them, but then again, emotions ran deeper than she could comprehend.
“I don’t deserve to be here” She signed again in tears, and this time, he opened his mouth to say something, but nothing came up. The words were stuck, and how could he start telling her needed the love and guide she wanted to run from.
Maybe he had made her scared with the way he asked her those questions, but still, he just wanted to know the basics, he wanted to know everything about his mate and she being this emotional wasn’t it.
“What exactly happened to you, Nathalia?” he signed wanting to know why she was malnourished, wanting to know why she was scared of hand movements, wanting to know why she thought she was not worthy of having the love and care and comfort that they all had? Just why? Was the question in his mind?
Just as he had asked her, the memories of those days returned, the rogues, their ugly faces, her hearing aids, the humiliation, the serving, the assault she had gone through.
Oh goddess!
Images of Derrick’s face came to mind, the only thing he had not been able to do was get close to her like doing the deed with her because her wolf somehow had rejected him and tried her possible best to push him off whenever he came even with force.
The more reason why she was beaten and traumatized, all the other young wolves who had been kidnapped that day from the pack and taken some had died, some had accepted their fates and had become rogues because they didn’t want the beatings and trauma that came with rejecting others had simply just become what she couldn’t lay her hands on as the trauma had gotten them to a state of behaving as thought they were mad, but here she was alive and even being able to run away.
She started breathing heavily as she could hear Derrick’s voice just swooshing her ears just as he and his guards and servants laughed and mocked her for the pain she was going through.
Dizziness ensued, and she was fast laying back in her bed, her vision becoming blurred. All she could feel was the doctor holding her hand trying to adjust her, trying to make her feel better.
But all she could think of was the fact that the doctor could not help her, she couldn’t stay, she had to go she was of no use to anyone, nobody wanted her.
She deserved to have been gone by now. Why is she alive? The pain, the torture, and the torture were just too much for her.
Xavier came closer holding her, although so tight she screamed from the contact of his hand to where her ribs had been broken and the last thing she saw in her blurry sights where the eyes of the Alpha looking extremely sad and within seconds she was out.
