Ethan's POV
I pulled into the work parking lot and dropped Leona off at her car. She seemed less upset now, at least I knew she had eaten this way. I worry that she doesn't eat enough with the stress piling on top of her I see her eating less and less and getting more and more into her head. I wish I could take her pain away for her. I would never hurt her or allow anyone else to hurt her like this again.
My wolf howled in my head because I was driving away from her. He was not patient with me and gave her time to process everything she was dealing with. I expect the divorce would take a while and during that time I can start working on building a relationship with her and then, when the time was right, I would tell her the truth about us and my family. That we were werewolves and that she is my fated mate chosen by the moon goddess. Nothing could go wrong there , right? I rolled my eyes at myself as I pulled up to the pack house and hopped out. My cousin was the pack Alpha. I wanted to update him on what was going on. I am sure he is curious as to why I have shown interest in a human. I walked through the living area where there were several pack members watching TV and playing on the foosball table that was to the side. They were mostly teenagers just getting back from school for the day. I made my way down the hall and to his office door. I took a deep breath and then knocked.
"Come in," I heard David call. I opened the door and stepped in, closing it behind me. "Hey Ethan! What brings you to visit me today?" He smiled, getting up from his desk and coming over giving me a hug. "David, it's good to see you. You are always so busy with pack business." I told him. "I know but I am never too busy for my favorite cousin." He said, "Come have a seat with me and I'll pour you a glass of whiskey." He told me. "Alright, that sounds good." I walked over and sat down in the chair. After a moment, he walked over and joined me in a chair across from me and handed me a glass of whiskey. I took a big drink, preparing for what was to come after revealing Leona was my mate. "Tell me, what is it you came to talk with me about?" David asked. I swallowed my whickey hard. I met his eyes and began. "The human Leona I asked for today off. . . . " I began telling him of the event today and how Leona's husband had been unfaithful. David's distaste for human marriages was apparent in his face as it twisted in disgust wolves were almost never unfaithful to their mates. He felt we were above them. I explained that she had a young son and how she worked at the pack's factory and how my mother felt drawn to her to watch over her in a maternal way and that they had become fast friends over the last couple of weeks. Then I told him about how my mother asked me to come work there for a while since production was picking up and we needed more hands there and didn't want to hire more humans for employees. Then I told him how I met her my first day and how I spent most of the day walking around awkwardly trying to sniff all the she-wolfs because I could smell my mate and my wolf was going wild and then at lunch my mother insisted that I come see her to help and that the human Leona sitting across from her caused my heart to beat out of my chest and I knew that she was my mate.
Through the story, David's face changes many times over and from concern and seriousness to excitement to acceptance maybe? I finished telling him and paused. I threw back the rest of the whiskey I was holding and swallowed hard, preparing for his words. Human mates weren't impossible but extremely rare and we haven't seen it happen in the last three generations. Finally, I met his eyes and asked, "well?" He smiled at me softly, "I am glad you have finally found your mate, Ethan. She has gotten herself into a very difficult situation. If you chose to accept her it will not be easy. I will order you not to tell her of our existence until after her divorce is final and she has agreed to be with you and has stated she is in love with you and would protect our secret. However, i would also advise you to consider that given she is human and the situation she is in that you could also reject her. She would never half to know and then pray to the moon goddess for a second chance mate. Either choice you make cousin. I will support you but the pack has to come first." He said with a final tone in his voice.
"I could never reject her. In my heart I have already accepted her, David. I can agree with your terms. I will protect the pack and her," I told him. He nodded. "Very well! Once everything is done and she has accepted the mate bond; we will celebrate and welcome her into the pack!" He said, standing up and shaking my hand. "Thank you cousin." I told him, sitting down the glass. "I must go now and inform mother of our agreement. " I told him. "Tell her my favorite aunt needs to come visit me soon and bring my some of her fried apples!" He said subconsitenceously rubbing his stomach. "I will." I smiled and I was off to see my mother and excited thinking of a future and a time where I could opening be myself with Leona and have her love me and I could love an hold her and I would accept her son as my own and hopefully put a few pups in her myself.
