There was something in Selene’s eyes I didn’t recognize. Something new. Something terrible and beautiful.
It wasn’t Skadi’s glow, nor the shadow that consumed her when she lost control. It was… something else. Like she carried fire beneath her skin, like every word she spoke no longer belonged to her completely, and yet sounded truer than ever.
And still, as she talked about the fusion, about merging with our beasts, I couldn’t shake the knot in my chest. One of those knots that don’t come undone with sweet words or promises of victory.
