Chapter 10 Duke “So the little man wants to get ice cream before we head to the shop to see your mom?” I smiled, looking at him. “Really would that really be so cool?” He was bouncing in his seat excited about getting ice cream. Looking at his smile was infectious and I was smiling at him. On our way to the ice cream parlor he told me about school and all his classmates, and I couldn’t help remember Jazz saying his dad ‘just wasn’t around’. I felt the need to find the guy and kick his ass, because seriously, what man in his right mind would leave her and his son behind? I also felt pride even though I had just met the kid. My pride had to do with the fact I had met him. Pulling into the spot, me and Avery got out of the car and waited in line for ice cream. We both ordered a chocolate dipped chocolate cone, and sat down at one of the many outdoor tables. “Did you know my mom’s birthday is Saturday?” Looking at him confused, “Isn’t your mom’s birthday Sunday?” Giggling “Aren’t you her best friend? It’s been the fourteenth of this June.” A little more confused, I wondered why, she always told me it was the fifteenth if it was on the fourteenth. “We are, but she always said it was on the fifteenth,” I stated. “Hmm, know I remember I asked once why grandma always celebrated it on the fifteenth and she said it because that was the day her parents died in a car accident and stayed with them until she found out she was pregnant with me, which was on her eighteenth birthday.” Now I looked even more confused and a little angry. She had s*x with someone else after we did? Now looking at Avery eating the cone on his ice cream, I noticed I hadn’t seen any of the guys we knew in his face. Considering I was confused beyond all compare, I got up and turned around and walked to the trash can when I looked into the window and figured it out. Boy oh boy was I pissed now she had my kid and never said a f*****g word. I had enough anger in me to bend her over and spank her ass until it was red, but betrayal was setting in, making me think of the fact she couldn’t trust me enough to tell me I had a son. In the past ten years she could have said something. Looking back at Avery, I composed myself and went back to the table to spend time with my son that I didn’t know I had.
