FIVE{Speak of the devil}

FRIDA "Frida?" A voice continued to chant my name from a distance. It was confusing because I could not see anyone around me. Soon, the voice turned to a female one. Then it turned to two female voices. And the next thing, I felt warm hands wrap around my neck and rest on my shoulders. "f*****g Frida Adams!" I did not remember sleeping off, but my best friend's voice made me feel as though I had just woken up from…a trance? I turned around, as fast as her grip would allow me, only to see Renee standing behind me, holding three books twice the size of her hands. She flashed me a warm smile through her glasses, while I shook my head as I returned her smile. Marika finally let go of me. She was the bubbly one. People often said we complemented one another. Marika's wits, my stubbornness and Renee's calmness made us a powerful trio. Popularly known in Everleigh High as "the Powerpuff girls." Yes, I also thought they could have come up with something better. But did trolls and bullies ever come up with smart ideas? "Did you fall asleep while standing? We were calling out to you from miles away!" Marika cried out, while still holding my hand. Her brown eyes stared down at me as she giggled. I always thought the brown of her eyes and the black colour of her hair were a stark contrast. But what did I know? She was born like that. My mouth opened to speak, but how could I tell them that I had zoned out and suddenly saw blood trickle down my nose? Speaking of which… I raised my hand to look at the part I had used to wipe my blood. There was nothing there! It was almost as though everything had been a dream. But that couldn't be possible. I knew for a fact that the blood was real. "Frida Adams? Do we need to get a nurse?" "Don't be rude, Marika. She probably has so many things on her mind. I mean, I would if I had chemistry practicals with perveted boys, and girls who think of nothing other than being s*x toys. It's weird. I thought science students were the smart ones." Renee chipped in, in her voice that was often as cool as the evening breeze. Even when she was as angry as the most angered being on Earth, the most she ever did was allow her face turn as red as the ginger shade of her hair. Renee never yelled at anyone, and remembered to keep her glasses on at all times. She couldn't see without them. Renee walked to where Marika held me and snatched my right hand from her. I saw Marika roll her eyes and scoff, but Renee ignored her, while leading me into the school building. Renee was a mother to us, both in and out of the school environment. "She isn't a science student. She wants to major in economics." Marika snapped back, following us behind. "Doesn't change a thing." Renee replied. Even though her voice was oddly calm, it oozed a sense of authority that must have warned Marika about speaking further. Renee was a small and interesting personality. These were my friends, the only people who had ever made me feel at home. It was funny how I had only known them for five years, yet it felt like we were sisters. As we walked into the enormous building that was my school, I prayed that they would not ask me… "We tried to call you all weekend, but it was impossible to reach you! We were really worried. What happened?" Marika finally asked. I seized my prayer immediately. What really happened last weekend? Oh! I found out I was going to die in seven months, decided to kill myself, failed because a very hot stranger saved me, focused on what it would be like in the afterlife and continued to wonder how I could meet the stranger again. But only to thank him, of course. He was almost my father's age. I couldn't say that, so I knew I had to lie. I swallowed hard and cleared my throat. Renee stared at me from the corner of her right eye. If I hadn't stolen a glance at her, I wouldn't have known. "My parents punished me, took my phone and laptop away." I lied. Yes! I lied through my teeth, and to my best friends! It was worse than finding out about my soon coming death. Marika chuckled and punched my back playfully, while Renee narrowed her eyes at me. I didn't like it when she looked at me that way, she always had a weird way to sense whatever was in a person's mind. "Stubborn ass! Bet they let you talk to Jacob though. They did, didn't they?" Marika's lips thinned into a wide smirk as she spoke. Jacob. The thought of the name caused my blood to boil. I didn't like him at all. And I wished he'd just let me… Fuck! Speak of the devil and he makes a grand entrance. Jacob Harts was walking towards us. His white sleeve rolled up to his elbows, flexing his veiny arms. His tie was loose, but not in a way that made him rough and tattered, it was in a way that made him…sexy. His dark blonde hair was scattered all over his head, with a clean cut by the left and two lines carved with a razor, or clipper. He was nothing short of handsome. But, he still wasn't it. Even though he was all mine, literally. "I don't want to talk to him." I whispered to my friends. "Hmmm?" "What?" Too late. He was already in front of us. His blue eyes stared down at me, and only me. The girls in Everleigh High believed I was lucky to be engaged to the hottest boy in school, maybe in the entire Everleigh. But I often wished one of them would steal his heart so he could leave me the hell alone. "Adams, we need to talk." My last name rolled out of his tongue like it was magic. He had a deep baritone that made girls cry - I am not joking - and I was a girl too. I cleared my throat and stood straight. "We have nothing to talk about, Harts." I spat out, face contorted in a frown. My frown didn't scare him. Jacob was one of the few people who were not scared by my stubbornness, rudeness or nasty frown. He turned to Marika and bowed, then Renee came next. I squinted my brows in confusion. What the hell was he doing? "Pardon me, ladies." In one swift grip, his hands circled around my right wrist and he pulled me away from my trio with force.
