Olivia felt disrespected and questioned Lucas, "I didn't know you had feelings for her. You just told me she can't even hold a candle to me, but now you refuse to break off your engagement?" Olivia didn't want Lucas for herself; she just didn't want Emily to marry someone as powerful as him, which is why she decided to become a wedge between them.
