BLACK SHEEP

1045 Words
Genevieve’s POV As I stared at the car, I dared to think that maybe Elias had changed his mind and had sent someone to get me, but I was totally wrong. When the car door opened, a man stepped out without a care about the rain at all as it soaked his messy dark brown hair that looked oddly familiar. He wore an expensive but relaxed black shirt with the top few buttons undone, revealing his tanned skin, and a heavy leather jacket that made his broad shoulders look even more intimidating. As he walked toward me with a lazy, predator look and I caught sight of his face, my breath caught in my throat. It was Elias's face with the exact same highly structured jawline, the same perfection, the same piercing ice blue eyes but everything else was entirely wrong because this man carried himself with an air that screamed for me to back off. A dark stubble accentuated his jaw, and a visible tattoo was all over his right arm, making him look even more dangerous. "Still playing the martyr, I see," he said and I immediately noted that his voice was deeper than Elias’s. Oh no, this wasn't Elias, it was the worse version of him. "Felix..." I whispered with a barely audible voice. Felix was the black sheep of the Whitmore family and the son Julian and Reyna pretended didn't exist. He had been exiled for years and the only times I had seen him was on old family photographs where he bore the same striking resemblance with Elias. Felix stopped just inches away from me with his cold eyes scanning my drenched clothes, my red, tear-stained face, my bags that were lying on the ground, and then, I watched as a smirk pulled at the corner of his lips, but it didn't reach his eyes. There was something dark hiding behind that smile that was so intense, it made a shiver run down my spine. "The golden boy really threw you out like garbage, didn't he?" Felix asked, his tone dripping with amusement as he watched my frozen state. He didn't wait for me to answer as he reached down, effortlessly snatched my heavy bags with one hand, and grabbed my wrist with the other as he urged me towards his car. "Get in the car, Genevieve, before you catch pneumonia." "No, let go of me," I protested as I finally came back to my senses. "I need to get away from this place as fast as I can." "With two trash bags in such a weather?" he countered, raising a dark brow. “What are you doing here? Please, pretend like you didn’t see me,” I said as I tried to collect my bags from him, but he moved them out of my reach. “I can’t leave you like this. How about I take you to the bus station?” he offered. My mind was filled with so many questions but as a heavy wind blew and I shivered, I knew he was a better option than walking around blindly. Seeing my look of defeat, he gently guided me towards the passenger side and helped me into the car, before closing the door after him and going over to the driver's side. As he slid into the seat beside me, the tight space filled with his scent and it was so intoxicating I moved away from him until I was leaning against the door. "What happened back there?" Felix asked quietly as he began to drive. I didn’t respond immediately as my mind went through what had happened one more time and before I could help it, I became a crying mess, letting all my built in emotions finally roll out. "He signed them," I choked out, wrapping my arms tightly around myself. "Elias signed the divorce papers and he told me his memories returned... he thinks Bianca is the one who saved him from the fire and he thinks she is his true love. And his parents... they threw me out as well and they told me I was nothing but a gold-digger who wormed her way into his life." I could only get those words out as I buried my face in my hands and began to cry bitterly. I didn’t want his comfort, I just wanted to let my emotions out. He didn’t try to console me either, he continued driving with his hands gripping the steering wheel. "Idiots. The whole damn lot of them," Felix muttered as he threw me a glance. "I’ve been back in the city for two days, and I’ve been watching. I knew Elias was a fool, but I didn't think he was stupid enough to let Reyna and Julian pull his strings like a puppet." I wiped my eyes and looked at his stunning side profile. "Why do you care, Felix? You’ve been gone for years and you hate your family." "Exactly. I hate them," Felix said, slowing the car down as we approached an exclusive penthouse. He parked the car in the private underground garage and turned off the car and only then did I take more notice of my surroundings. “You said you would take me to the bus station,” I said. “Yes, but first, we have to talk.” “About what?” Felix turned in his seat and leaned closer to me as he looked at me like he had waited a lifetime just for this moment. "I’m back to reclaim what’s mine," he murmured, his voice dropping low. "I’m going to take the company from my father, and I’m going to strip Elias of everything he thinks he owns." "What does that have to do with me?" I whispered, as I shrank against the seat tiredly. "I just want to disappear. I want to run away." Felix reached out gently and firmly wrapped his fingers around my chin, before forcing me to look directly into his deep eyes as his touch sent a strange jolt through my entire body. "You’re not running away, Vivi," Felix stated as his eyes bored inro mine. "We’re going to make Elias pay for what he did, and you’re going to help me do it."
