Chapter 15 The view was unlike anything Kris had ever seen before. It even made the castle seem unremarkable. The ridge they were standing on offered them a view of the entire camp laid out below them. The sun was just breaking through the clouds, illuminating the camp. The warmth of the sun cut through the harsh autumn air, but Kris hardly noticed. The clearing below was occupied by a hundred wagons arranged in a circle. Campfires dotted the ground inside of the ring, as did tents. Hundreds of people – Shifters – moved around inside. They were going about their early morning lives: cooking, cleaning, and getting ready for a long day. Guards were posted at various intervals around the outside of the ring of people.
