Chapter 9 How long had she ran for? Kris had no answer. Thunk. The sound was still in her mind. So was the guilt. But her will to survive was stronger. Her legs were burning and shaking, especially where she had had cut herself. Her entire body was screaming in protest. She wanted to keep pushing herself, but she didn’t know how much farther she could go. Her leg was weak; she had already pushed herself far past what she thought was possible. She thought that even if she had killed Korrin, that other man – Ruslo – was still out there, somewhere. When he found Korrin’s lifeless body, would he follow her into the woods? Would he call for backup? Leave her to die out here? Any were possibilities. She suspected he was out here somewhere, though. The rain was still coming down.
