Kris sat on the stone in front of the cave mouth and looked at the moon. She was still naked, but wrapped tightly in furs, warm even in the freezing temperatures. Korrin was inside, fast asleep. Kris hadn’t been able to sleep, but not because of anything on her mind. Not anything bad, anyway.
Her life had been a whirlwind since arriving in Europe. She’d started school, again, because her parents had wanted it. She’d met Maria, who’d led her to her fateful meeting with Korrin. At the time, it had seemed like a death sentence and that her life was over.
