XENIA “There you go, baby. Easy does it,” my mom said kindly as she helped a post-op patient into bed. I watched her, being moved by her boundless kindness as she tucked the teenage boy into bed and spoke soothingly to him to ease his worries. Even though I’d witnessed her being endlessly sweet to patients each time we volunteered at St. Hildegard’s hospital, I never stopped being awed and touched by it. We hadn’t volunteered in months because mom’s work schedule was tighter than ever of late, but I was happy that she’d finally gotten a few days off so we could spend time helping as many persons as we could.
