As soon as her request left her lips, my answer flew out of mine without another thought.
“No?” she stepped back like I’d slapped her in the face, “That’s the first time you’ve ever said no to me, Matteo.”
She was right. I’d never said no to her before now, her every wish was my command and I was always eager to see it through. Unknowingly, I’d passed that on to Xenia without realizing it and it’d taken rejecting Thekla for the first time to realize it.
