MATTEO My presence in the same boutique as her wasn’t a coincidence in any way. She was meant to think so, that’s something I and Thekla had made sure of. A few minutes after the I got home from school, Thekla called me and asked me to drop whatever I was doing and head to the mall because Xenia was headed there for some shopping. At first I’d wanted to argue with Thekla when she brought up that suggestion, but when I remembered how disappointed she’d seemed when I told her I was unable to land Xenia as my date, I caved without uttering a word of disagreement. Even though I already had an endless selection of tuxes in my closet, I had to hurry out of the house and head to the mall to shop a new one for the ball so my presence in the mall would be believable when I bumped into Xenia.
