Chapter 9 - Lina

I wakeup to a knock at the door. Who could that be. I sit up just in time to see Mason walk in with a tray in his hand. "Good morning birthday Girl." Oh wright. I look to the side and see its only 07:00 am. He places the tray next to me on the bed. There is a plate with backon, eggs and waffles, a strong black coffee and a glass of orange juice. As tired as I am, I couldn't have asked for a beter way to wake up on my birthday.

"I hope I did alright. It might not taste as amazing as moms special birthday breakfast, bu..." I interrupted him "it's perfect Mason. Thank you so much."

"I also have a small gift for you." He walks out the room and comes back with a box. I open it as soon as he handed it to me. "No way. Mason. How did you afford this. Please tell me you didn't spend all the money your getting for this weekend on it?"

Mason didn't answer me. He only smiled. "Mason." "You deserve it Lina, You do so much for me and you never complain. I know you've been saving to buy yourself a new camera and I had the money so why couldn't I buy it for you?"

I give Mason a hug not knowing what to say. "Ok, I have to go get ready, my first set is from 10:00 to 12:00 in the garden and I still need to set up. Enjoy your breakfast and I hope you get to use your new present this weekend."

"Thank you Mason. I'll come help you when I'm done." He left my room and I drink my coffee while setting my food on the small dining table.

When I'm finally dressed and ready for the day I walk to Mason room to see what he needs help with. We started carrying equipment down to the garden when we run into my Mom on the stairs.

"Sweetheart, your up early. What are you doing?" Mason was so focused he didn't hear a thing and just kept walking. "Morning. I'm helping my brother set up for his 10:00 set. He's always scared of not being set up in time and ends up being ready a whole hour before he needs to be." Moms eyes went foggy for a minute. "I've arranged for a few men to help carry all this stuff. You shouldn't be doing any manual labour today. It's your birthday. You should be spending the day doing things you love, celebrating with the people who love you, having fun. Not doing this."

"It's ok mom. I love helping Mason with his shows. He is really a great performer and getting to listen to him play is one of my favourite things anyway. So I'll still be doing something I love while helping someone very important to me." I told her with pride and joy in my heart.

"Ok sweetheart. But I still want the others to help you carry the stuff he needs, no manual labour." She told me sternly. I felt loved at her concern for me. "Thank you Mom."

"Mom?" Mason stopped next to me.

"Mason, this is my birth Mother, Mom this is my youngest brother Mason." Mason extended his hand a bit hesitantly. "Nice to meet you Mrs, uhm," "Violet, you can call me Violet. Its nice to meet you to Mason. Lina talks very fondly of you, I'd like to get to know you better, if that ok with you." "Yes I'd like that as well, seeing as you are Lina's birth family I'm sure we will be seeing a lot of each other."

four young men came up the stairs "Please help Lina in anyway she needs it today. It's her birthday and I don't want her doing anything strenuous." One of them took the equipment from my hands and asked where I wanted it. Not knowing Mason plans yet "Mason will show you where he wants it and we can go get the rest." A bit confused Mason agreed and went back down the stairs while I took the others to get the equipment from Mason's room.

Once we have everything in the garden I let Mason explain what he wants and we have everything set up in record time. "Thank you so much guys, we really appreciate the help." They left and I went to sit next to Mason. "So you still have an hour and a half before you are required to play. What would you like to do while we wait?" Mason looks at me. He's a bit hesitant and I have never seen him do that with me. "What's wrong Mason?" He sighed "So how was the talk with your birth family last night?" He sounds hurt. "It was good. We only talked about basic things. I think they just wanted me to feel more comfortable around them. We still have a lot to learn about each other but we have loads of time so there's no rush." I have never lied to him before. But I couldn't tell him about the werewolves, could I? 'He wouldn't understand Lina. I know he's your family, but he's not their yet.' Layla told me as well. "So will you be staying here with them now?" I take his hand "Mason, I haven't even considered it. Yes they are my family but so are you. We have a home and I still have

three months of senior year left. I have responsibilities back home. I wouldn't just pack up and leave. Why would you think that." He looks down at our hands "It's just I know you've always dreamt of finding them, and I know how much this means to you. But I don't want to lose you Lina." "Mason you will never lose me. I'm not trading in one family for another. The only thing that happened is my family doubled in size. I now have even more amazing people to love, cherish and spoil. I won't be losing anyone and you most definitely won't be losing me." I pull him into a hug and hold him for a while. "Sorry for being a downer on your birthday." "You never have to apologize for having feelings Mason. I love you and I will support you through the good and the bad times, always."

"What if I go get my new camera so I can get some shots of you while you practice. That way we both get some practice in." That relaxed him a bit. "We need to change first. I'm not sure what the dress code is, but I'm sure we could ask someone." Without thinking I mind like mom 'Mom? Is there a dress code for today? What should we wear?' Mom answers instantly 'during the day is casual but tonight there will be a formal dance. I hope that helps otherwise I'm sure your sister would love to assist in this matter.' 'thanks mom'. "There's no dress code for today only for tonight's dance." Mason looks at me surprised. s**t. "They told me last night. I wanted us to be prepared."
