'It's one of the reasons I told you we are special Lina. It's only one of the things we can do' Layla tells me.
'One of? There's more?'
My eyes catch the clock on the wall behind my family. s**t. It's 09:45 already.
"Ok. I'm sorry if it scared you in any way, and I promise I'm fine. I will answer any questions you have about it later, right now Mason needs to get back to the garden, he only has 15min to do sound checks now. Oh and where is my camera?"
"Here." Mason hands me my camera bag and we walk out the room and down to the garden.
Luckily I have already set up the video equipment and can focus on taking photo's of Mason and the beautiful garden he is performing in.
They have set up tables and chairs through out the garden like one massive tee party. There are several tents up with snack tables and a bar. People have already started roaming the garden and finding seats.
Mom said this was casual but I can see that most people are dressed up just a bit and I am grateful I decided to wear my floral sun dress and lacey sandals. Mason was also a bit more dressed up in his Chino's and dress shoes paired with a dress shirt worn open over a casual T-shirt which Judy styled for him.
I snap a few shots of him tuning in his acoustic guitar when I see my family exit the house. 'I know you are all worried, I can see it on your faces, but I swear I am fine. I have been going through this a long time and I will not let it stop me or the people I care about from continuing to live. I will let Layla explain what she meant and we will figure out what comes next. But only after I get to enjoy Mason performing for My Birthday. Ok?' 'Alwright Sweetheart' 'Fine' 'Ok' they all respond and I see them try to hide their concern at least.
They all walk to the front of the gathering together. "Today is a very special day. Not only is it our precious Lina's 18th birthday, but it is also the day we get to reintroduce her to all of you." Dad's voice booms over the crowed. "The Moon Goddess has brought her home." Moms spoke next and the crowed erupts in applauds and cheer.
Is this just because I'm a part of the pack? Do they feel this strongly about all their members?
Ray walks strait to me and takes my hand leading me to the front to stand beside them. I walked to the front with my head held high not wanting to embarrass my family.
"We have invited all our allies for her Birthday Ball tonight to celebrate the momentus occasion with us, but for now lets enjoy the festivities." Dad ended his little speech and we all walked to the table wright in front.
'So does the pack feel this strongly about all the member's?' I link Ray. 'Well, yes we do appreciate all the member's of the pack but No, the special welcome back and extreme excitement is only because we are high ranking pack members.'
'High ranking members?' I ask a bit confused. 'Lina. we are the Alpha Family. Dad is the leader of this pack and mom is his Luna. We lead, protect and care for this pack.'
'Dad is the Alpha!? Ok well this makes a bit more sense now.' I hear Ray giggle and she is smiling at me from across the table. Perfect photo opportunity. I'm so fast se doesn't even realise until I already took 2 photos.
'What does being the Alpha Family mean for us? Do I have responsibilities or rules I have to follow?' 'Lina, today is your day, we can discuss anything els tomorrow. Ok?' Ray looks at me sternly. "Fine" I say out loud causing the rest of our family to look at me. I feel my cheeks warm up. "Sorry"
Just then Mason voice saves me "For my next song I would like the beautiful birthday girl to join me on stage." I walk over and stand next to Mason. "I was hoping you would do me the honour of singing with me." a mixture of whispers and cheers are heard from the crowd.
"What song would you like me to sing with you?" Mason turns to look at the crowed. " This song is specially dedicated to Lina and as the reason for this song she is the only one that has ever heard it before. I wrote this song for Lina almost 2 years ago and it's about everything she means to me." his voice is a bit shaky. "Mason are you sure?" he doesn't respond to me directly "This song is called Saviour." but that answers my question.
I turn to look at the crowd with a mic in my hand while Mason leads the song.
"In the darkest times, when skies were gray,
You came to me to lead the way,
A guiding light, a helping hand,
Without you here, I couldn't stand.
(Chorus)
Oh, you're the savior of my life,
Guiding me through storm and strife,
With a love that never ends
My dearest Lina, on you, I depend.
When I was lost and couldn't see the way,
You showed me dawn after the darkest day,
With you by my side, I've found my way home,
You're the reason why I've grown
(Chorus)
Oh, you're the savior of my life,
Guiding me through storm and strife,
With a love that never ends
My dearest Lina, on you, I depend.
Through all the trials that came my way,
You were my sunshine on the darkest day,
With your love, I've found the strength to survive,
You're my savior, and with you, I'm truly alive."
I only made it half way before my voice was a shaky mess. Mason put his heart and soul in every word and it almost broke me all over again. I grabbed him in a tight embrace the moment the song ended, needing to hold him and remind him he was safe.
