Chapter 15 - Lina

I spent the next hour telling them about my abilities, what I know and the experience I have had over the past 13 years. "So to make sure we are all on the same page: You start using your powers at 7 years old. Before Maggie, you only connected with 3 other kids, who are now your adopted siblings. You healed them unknowingly but figured out it was you through the visions you started getting after connecting to Mason, who is the first kid you connected with, which means Maggie was the first person you intentionally healed. By the time you were 10 years old, Mason figured out that asking you questions helps the visions go vaster. You also record the visions after that to keep track of them and you have had visions of an unknown person or persons. Did I miss anything?" Dad looked at me with an unreadable expression on his face. "Only that I still have a lot to learn about my abilities." I told him. I could visibly see Dad take a deep breath before he spoke again. "OK. How do we move forward? How do we learn more about your abilities?" 'My turn' Layla told us through the mind link. 'We have multiple abilities, as you call them. The ones you just talked about are our Fiscal Empathy, Clairvoyance and Healing abilities. What you need to know about them is that we can use them on any werewolf we think of, we just need to practice and learn how to use each ability.' "What about the four children I connected with? I wasn't thinking of them when we connected the first time?" 'No, but your mind is subconsciously searching for any werewolf in distress. You were able to connect with them due to the intensity of their emotions. Children cannot control their emotions as adults can, so we are 80% more likely to pick up on a child's emotions without thinking of them or even needing to know them.' "Are you saying that you can connect to any werewolf, feel what they are feeling or experiencing, see any memory... Heal any werewolf, as long as you think of doing it, so you can control it?" Dad asks. 'We can't control it yet, but after a bit of practice, yes we should be able to. It will be easier with wolves we are already connected to, like our family or the pack, after we officially join.' Layla responded. "So does that mean after you officially join the pack you will be able to feel any pack members' distress and experience any memory of any one in the pack? Wouldn't that make the visions worse?" Alek asks. I can feel the concern rolling off of him. 'Yes. Because we will be connected through the pack link we will be able to experience all of it. I suggest that you give Lina time to practice control before letting us officially join the pack. If she does not have control, the emotions and the pain could overwhelm us. I am not sure if I would be able to take all the pain away from Lina if she is unable to control it.' Layla explains. "Ok so we don't join the pack until we have control. Anything else we need to know?" I ask 'Well, the visions you experienced that you don't know who they belong to are actually our family's memories. Every time you had one was after you were thinking of them.' Layla told me. "Wait, you recorded them all. We could go through the ones you don't know and tell you who they belong to.. If you want?" JJ said, a bit unsure of himself. "That could work. I'll send the ones I don't know to you in the week and you can let me know." I smiled at him. "Are there any other abilities we need to know about?" this time it was mom who asked. 'Well actually, I'm not sure. I only know of the abilities that Lina has already discovered and will only be able to know more when we discover or accidentally use new abilities.' Layla told her. "How do we discover new abilities if we don't know what they are?" 'New abilities appear when we need them and not a moment before. We can try unlocking some through high levels or intense training situations but I'm not sure if that will work.'Layla explained. "Ok so I think we should set up some sort of training and a schedule for Lina and Layla so they can practice and learn to control the abilities they already have first, then we can think of higher level training that could possibly unlock new abilities." Alek suggested. "You need to take into account that she won't be here during the week, so only weekend training sessions and we need to start by testing her so we know what our starting point is." JJ added. "You can also add minor training that she could do on her own during the week to help speed up her training", Mom suggested. "Ok so Alek, you are in charge of setting up a schedule. We can test Lina next time she comes to visit. In the meantime, we can give her a few miner exercises to start out with." Dad finished. Rachael was very quiet throughout the entire conversation. I looked at her and could see tears in her eyes. "Ray?" She looked at me slowly. "Do you have to go?" her voice was shaky but I could tell she was trying hard not to cry. "It's not that far and I'll try to be here every weekend. I promised we can talk every day." I said well walking over to give her a hug. "How far does the mind link work? Will we be able to communicate through the link?" I asked no one in particular. Dad was the one to respond. "We will have to test it. It depends on how strong the connection between the two wolves are. On average it's about 100 miles. How far is your foster family's house from here?" "Well the drive was less than two hours, so I think it's under 100 miles. I'm not sure." "So then we test it. When you pass the hour mark we can check in every 5 to 10 minutes. If we are not able to link all the way to their house at least you will have an idea of where you need to be to reach us." Dad told me. "Perfect." I smile at them still holding on to Racheal. "So what's next?"
