Everyone at the table looks at Racheal with a mixture of shocked, scared and horrified experience, as if she just told me I was going to die or something. Racheal looks back at them " What? We only have six hours left until midnight and a whole lot she needs to know before then."
Mom was the first to respond " Racheal, this is not the type of conversation to have around the dinner table, we can tell her everything she needs to know after dinner, when we all go upstairs." Racheal huffed "fine I'll wait, but eat quickly then." Jason tried to conceal a laugh with a cough and was doing a terrible job at it. Alek looked at me like I would disappear any moment so I took his hand to reassure him. He gave me a light smile and then looked down so I couldn't see his eyes. When I looked at my father his eyes looked foggy as if he was lost in thought for just a moment before they cleared up and he looked at me. "Would you mind joining us after dinner. There are a few things we need to tell you and it is quite urgent so we would need to discuss it tonight if that's ok with you?" He asked me hopefully.
" That's fine. I could come up to your floor after I take Mason his dinner" I told him and he smiled and gave me a small node.
The rest of the dinner everyone kept the conversation light and we never ran out of things to talk about. I felt very much at home. That is just until one of the workers came up and gave me a plate for Mason. Now I am dreading going up there. What do I tell him. How do I tell him. Will he be made or would he be happy for me. As I thought of all the possible scenarios I didn't realise I had already walked all the way to his door. All I had to do now was knock.
My heart was beating out of my chest and I had to take a few deep breaths before I could go in. He didn't answer right away. He probably didn't hear me over the music while he was practicing.
I knocked again, a bit louder this time and I heard the music stop. The door opened a few seconds later. "Lina? Why are you standing out here. You should know by now to just come in when I'm practicing. I hope you weren't starting out here to long?"
"Oh so now I should know to just come in but when we are at home I don't respect your practice times when I just walk in" I sarcastically asked him with a bit of a smirk on my face. It lightened the mood and made me feel a bit more relaxed.
We walked over to the small dining table so he could sit and eat. I could see how distracted he was, he was probably going through the set list for tomorrow in his head. When he finally looked up at me I saw his thought process change almost instantly. "What happend Lina?" He asked me concern spread across his face.
"I need to tell you something, but first I need you to know that what I'm about to tell you changes nothing. Ok?" I saw the confusion on his face and before he could say anything "I found my birth family" I blurted out while looking down at my hands to scard to she his reaction.
I have no idea how much time passed before I felt a finger under my chin pulling my head up to look him in the eyes. "Lina? You found your birth parents! Why would you feel scared to tell me that? I know you are my sister in every way that matters. I love you and I will support you no matter the road you choose. I am right here and I'm not going anywhere. I love you Lina."
I felt a tear roll down my cheek. I practically jumped forward into Mason's arms almost knocking him of the chare as he embraces me. "I love you too Mason" was all I managed to say. Mason ran his fingers through my hair knowing how much it comfort's me when he does that.
"So were did you find them?" Mason asked me never letting go of me. "Here. They are here Mason. This is their house. The hole weekends event is for my 18th birthday. They thought I was dead, but they still celebrate my birthday every year." My voice was so soft I'm unsure if he heard everything I said. "Here? You lived here?" He said while holding me at arms length so he could see my face clearly.
"I don't know much yet. But they are here and they would like to talk to me tonight before my birthday tomorrow. So I was going to go see them after I told you, just to hear what they have to say." He looked worried. "Do you want me to go with you?" I stood up straight trying to look as confident as I could "No Mason. I think this is something I need to do on my own."
He placed a smile on his face but I know him well enough to see the concern behind it. I gave him a hug. "I will tell you everything tomorrow morning, ok. You need to get some rest. I won't be the reason you don't give your best for you performance tomorrow." I gave him a stern look, well as stern as I could in this moment and he chuckled.
I walked out stopping in the door to say good night before closing the door behind me.
It was already 21:23 when I got to the top floor. Alek was waiting for me in the hall, a smile spread on his face the moment he saw me.
"Were is everyone els? Did they already go to bed?" He shook his head and took my hand leading the way "No. We have all been waiting for you." We walked through 2 big archway doors at the end of the hall and straight into a sitting area that looks just big enough to accommodate 8 people comfortably.
Mom and Dad where sitting together on the lovers seats, Racheal was on her own tub chair and Jason was sitting ons the end of a lang couch.
Alek walked me over to sit between him and Jason. Just as we sat down Jason took my other hand and they both refused to let go. It was strangely comforting. "So what is so important that you need me to know it before midnight?" They all exchanged looks differing from worry to fear and my heart started pounding so loud I was sure they could hear it.
