The Unexpected Secretary

Chapter two

Ring ring ring

"Oh s**t"

Isabella heard her phone ring from a distance. When she woke up she was in an unfamiliar room. A room much bigger than her apartment. Confused, she got up and went to get her phone. She touched her head as she felt dizzy. When she looked at her phone it was Maggy calling her roommate and best friend.

"Hi Maggy!" She said with a groan

"So spill, where are you ?" Maggy asked clearly worried because it wasn't like Isabella to sleep out for the night without informing her.

"Mag. I really don't know what happened but I think I messed up big time. I'll explain once I figure out where I am and how to get home."

"Are you okay Bella ??? I can come get you, send me your location now"

"Mag don't worry, I'll contact you if I really need you. Promise"

"Okay promise, I'm just a call away Bella."

"Bye"

"Bye"

Isabella hangs the phone and touches her head feeling like her head is about to burst. She headed to the bed to sit down, feeling slightly uncomfortable in between her legs. She thought so hard about what happened last night and where she was but nothing was clear until she looked at the side table next to the bed and saw a note with a bottle of water and tablets just beside it. The note read

" Take these, they'll prevent anything unwanted, I hope you feel better. My driver will take you home, just ring him up and he'll be right there … Bye Isa !

Ethan."

Tears formed in her eyes when realisation kicked in, she had a one night stand with a stranger even if she knew his name. Tom, the man she thought was the love of her life, broke up with her after she confronted him about cheating on her. She felt lost, heartbroken. At that moment all she needed was to get out of that penthouse, head straight home and get herself back together before work on Monday.

Isabella dialled the number in and on the other side of the phone Ethan's driver responded.

"Good day miss Isabella my name is Matthew, are you ready to leave?"

"Hi Matthew, yes I am."

"Ok miss I'm out front"

She cut the call, wiped her tears and got dressed. She didn't even want to have a bath, feeling weak and heartbroken; she just wanted to see Maggy and eat some ice cream.

Ethan seated in his office, thinking about last night's events. He has had one-night stands before but this time it was different. He felt like he knew Isabella, a special connection or was it s****l attraction? They agreed on having the one-night stand with no strings attached but it seems like there was a knot created in the process.

His phone rings, taking him out of his trans. He was regarded as the heartless CEO so he brushed the feeling off and answered his phone.

"Has she contacted you yet?"

"Yes Sir, she just got through to me. I think I heard her crying."

"Thank you Matthew, please make sure she gets home safe and no need to tell me where she lives. I won't be keeping in touch."

"Noted Sir, we are leaving now"

As he puts his phone down, it rings again but this time it's not Matthew but his Dad. Clearly annoyed, he picks up the call.

"Yes Dad, what may I do for you today?" Irritation was clear in his voice.

Ethan's Dad hasn't always been a business person, he was family oriented when Ethan and his siblings were younger but there was a time he just stopped investing in his family after a heated argument with his wife. Ethan and his siblings just grew distant after the incident with no explanation whatsoever.

"Ethan I'm going to be away for some time on business and I need you to be the CEO at the Smiths Enterprises headquarters"

"Dad I've been really busy, nonetheless I'll be there"

One thing about Ethan, he has always been ready to invest his time into the family business because he is the oldest and knows how important it is to his old man.

"Great, I'll be introducing you to the board on Monday then you can meet the others when you're ready. I trust you'll be early!"

"Sure Dad, time is money I'll be there. Bye"

He hung up the phone and massaged his forehead feeling a strong migraine coming just by thinking about events that have passed in 24 hours.

"Miss we've arrived"

Isabella was so lost in her thoughts she didn't realise they were in front of her flat.

"Miss" Matthew called out a second time while looking at her through the front mirror.

"Oh, sorry. Thank you. Please tell your boss that I've taken the pills he left and for whatever reason he can go to hell."

"Noted miss, take care" he replied with an apologetic smile.

Isabella walked slowly to her apartment door, she stood there for what felt like hours before opening the door with her key. The minute she got in and closed the door she was greeted by Maggy with that motherly worried look on her face. Maggy knew Isabella well enough so she led her to the sofa and handed her a tub of ice cream and a spoon.

Maggy and Isabella have been best friends since kindergarten. They were the only two kids that didn't want to interact with other kids, after they made eye contact they somehow knew they were meant to be and ever since they've been inseparable. Maggy's mom passed away when they were teens and ever since Isabella's mother took her as her own. Some would say they were destined to be sisters.

Isabella took the ice cream and put it beside her. She then took Maggy in a big hug and she bursted into tears. She sobbed till her tears were dry and then she was finally ready to talk.

"Mag, I messed up big time" she started

Maggy didn't say a word and just listened to her talk so she could feel better.

" Tom broke up with me before the event. I confronted him after I saw texts between him and a girl named Anddy. He was cheating on me and he acted like the victim" she laughed bitterly while taking a spoon full of ice cream.

" I then had to suck it up and attend that Charity ball, I drank so much that I had the intention of getting laid Mag. I met this guy, well he approached me and we just hit it off. I'm sure he was thinking how easy I was to get."

"Bella, calm down. If you don't wanna talk about it we can just go sleep for the rest of the afternoon" Maggy said trying to comfort her best friend.

"Don't worry I wanna talk it out and forget it ever happened because guess what I agreed to never seeing that man again, and the best part I don't even know his last name. Imagine how many Ethans are on this planet." Isabella signed

"Bella, I'm so sorry you went through this. You know what, go take a shower and let's get into bed or watch a series of love is blind. I know you can get through this phase of life, you're a warrior. If you want to cry I'll give you a shoulder and a bucket if it's too much"

They both laughed at Maggy's joke. Isabella headed to her room, took her clothes off and had a hot bath.

Isabella and Maggy had separate rooms but that Saturday night Maggy slept in with her lovely Bella scared that she might die in her sleep after all the pain she's been through.
