✽ Jason ✽ Mandy left early for class with her bag slung over one shoulder and her hair still damp from a rushed shower. She looked calmer, and that made me feel at ease. I grabbed my laptop and headed upstairs to our new apartment. It was still very empty, but I planned to do something about that. I liked the fact that there were only six apartments on the top floor. That meant there were fewer footsteps. Fewer voices. And fewer variables. I sat down on the hard wooden floor and leaned back against the wall as I opened up my laptop. I did not decorate for comfort. I decorated for control. Mandy had signed the contract without reading every line. She had looked relieved enough to accept my promise to handle everything. She wanted the fear to stop. I wanted her to stop looking for answer
