A few weeks passed by and it was Kira’s 19th birthday. Mama had told her for the past week that she had a surprise for her and Mama would not budge on what it was, considering Kira hated surprises. As Kira was brushing Silver Moon, she felt someone coming near her. She turned around and it was BECKY! Kira was super excited that Becky was there! She was supposed to be in Germany for the summer. She ran up and hugged her
“Dude, why are you not in Germany?” Kira asked while hugging her tightly.
“I came home a little early to see my favorite pitcher for her birthday and to see my family before the semester starts up,” Becky said while laughing at Kira going crazy.
As they were walking back up to the house, mama met them at the door, saying “You like my surprise?”
Becky and Kira looked at each other just laughing. Kira hugged mama, telling her yes. While hanging out with Becky the majority of the day and telling each other what's been going on with her in Germany and with Kira in Kansas and about Blake. Becky called it a night, needing to get home to her parents to visit before the girls headed out in a few days to get ready for softball camp and their classes.
“Mama thank you for everything for my birthday! Becky was a great gift that was very much needed.” I told mama as I was hugging her.
“Oh, we have one more for ya sweet pea,” Daddy said as he opened the back door.
Kira looked at him confused, and she followed him to the pole barn. Daddy opened the door and his jaw dropped.
“O M G NOOOO seriously??, shouted Kira.
A Chevy Equinox Metallic Black, black leather seats.
“But, y'all didn't have to do this!!” Kira told her parents as she hugged them.
“Sweet pea, there are a lot of weirdos out there. I’d rather you have your vehicle than use these dang Ubers,” Daddy said, very concerned.
“Thanks, daddy, mama I do appreciate this, y’all are the best,” Kira told them while she hugged them.
After everything settled down, Kira was ready for bed. She made her way up to her room and changed into her night clothes and lay in bed until she drifted off to sleep. Kira dreamt she was in a wooded forest. The moon was bright and she was able to see where she was going, but Kira was lost. She had no idea where she was. The mysterious man who always visited her, a voice kept speaking but she couldn't understand what he was saying. Kira kept looking around and would see wolves running around and directly in front of her. About 100 yards away from her, a beautiful black-silverish wolf was looking at her like he was the ringleader. Next, she heard what sounded like right next to her ear was a man saying “I’m coming for you.” She instantly woke up from what seemed like a deep sleep. Chills were going throughout her body with what he said to her. It sounded so real like he was next to the outside of her dream.
A couple of days passed and it was the day that Kira had to say goodbye to her parents. Daddy had already brought her new vehicle up to the house so she could load it up. Becky had just shown up with her bags and loaded them up in the back.
“I made you girls some snacks for the road! Remember don’t stop for anyone! Let us know you made it to North Cackalacky”, mama said while handing them the snacks and giving Kira a big hug.
Daddy came around from checking all the tires and hugged Kira. He was not much of a goodbye person. Kira didn’t blame him. She would rather say see you later.
“OK, we are off, I’ll call you when we get there and I’ll see you on Christmas break!” She told her parents as Kira and Becky were getting in the car to head back east.
Kira started the road trip driving. She told Becky that she would drive until she was tired and they could stop at a motel.
Kira and Becky had been driving for hours on end, and they were both exhausted. They had been on a road trip for days, and they were in desperate need of a good night's sleep. As they drove, they spotted a motel off the highway and decided to pull off for the night.
The motel was nothing special - it was a small, run-down place with a flickering neon sign out front. But at this point, Kira and Becky were willing to take whatever they could get. They parked the car and headed inside to check-in.
The motel manager was a gruff, middle-aged man who seemed more interested in his cell phone than checking them in. He handed them the key to their room without saying a word and went back to his reading.
Kira and Becky made their way down the dimly lit hallway to their room, feeling a little uneasy. The door creaked as they opened it, and they were greeted by a musty smell and a faded floral bedspread.
"Ugh, this place is gross," Kira said, wrinkling her nose.
They both checked the beds and then collapsed onto the beds, exhausted. Kira grabbed the TV remote and turned it on, while Becky pulled out her phone to check her messages. After a few minutes of silence, Kira spoke up.
"Hey, do you want to grab something to eat? I'm starving," she said.
Becky nodded in agreement, and they decided to order some takeout from a nearby restaurant. As they waited for their food to arrive, they chatted about their plans for the rest of the trip.
They both changed into their pajamas and crawled into bed. The mattress was lumpy, and the pillows were flat, but they were too tired to care. Within minutes, they were both sound asleep, the hum of the air conditioner lulling them into a deep slumber.
As Kira lay there in the darkness, blindfolded and disoriented, the voice of the mystery man filled her ears once again. He spoke in hushed tones, promising that he was coming, that he would soon claim her as his own.
Her heart raced as she listened to his words, feeling a mixture of fear and excitement at the prospect of what lies ahead.
“Who is this man? What does he want from me? And why do I feel such an intense connection to him, even though I have never seen his face?”
As the moments ticked by, she was filled with a growing sense of unease. “What if the mystery man is dangerous, or if he had sinister intentions towards me?” But at the same time, she could not shake the feeling that there was something important waiting for her in this dream world, something that she could not ignore.
Finally, the man's voice faded away, leaving her alone in the darkness once again. But even though she could not see him, she felt his presence all around her, like a shadow that she could not shake.
She was left with a sense of uncertainty and anticipation, wondering what new twists and turns lay ahead in this strange, surreal world of her dreams. “Will I ever learn the truth about the mystery man, and what he wants from me? Or will I remain forever lost in this mysterious, dangerous world, blindfolded and alone?” Only time would tell.
With the sun peeking into the room from the broken blinds, Kira and Becky woke up feeling surprisingly refreshed. They checked out of the motel, got back in the car, and continued on their road trip, ready for whatever adventures lay ahead.
