Devlin
“Ok Luna, your ankle is healing perfectly.” Dr. Williams addressed Lotus, placing her foot in a boot. Last night Dr. Williams had broken her ankle to set it properly. Lotus had yelped from the pain then blacked out. I was in full panic mode while Dr. Williams reassured me that it was normal. Lotus had slept peacefully throughout the night, letting me hold her.
“Can I be discharged now?” she hesitantly asked. Dr. Williams chuckled, “Of course! You’ll need to go easy on it for the next week or two. I’ll send you out with some crutches.” Lotus nodded while Dr. Williams made her way out the door.
“Are you ready to go home baby?” I asked while holding her hand. She looked down at our intertwined fingers, “I haven’t had a home in over ten years. I’m excited to see it.” She smiled, her dimple poking out and her eyes bright, my heart skipped a beat.
Donavon walked in holding the pair of crutches that Dr. Williams promised. I helped him settle the pups in their seats as we prepared to leave. I grabbed the girls, Donavon had August, and Lotus balanced herself in the crutches. We carefully made our way back to the pack house, making sure to go slow for Lotus. She cooed at our newly built home as I told her Brantley’s sister, Violet, was one of the designers.
We stopped at the stairs when we heard her sisters yell out. “Lotus!” they said at the same time. They rushed down and gave her hugs and kisses, both talking at once. Did they do this every time they saw her? Lotus just laughed, managing to keep up. “Are you going to your room?” Lily asked. Lotus inclined her head. The twins squealed, drawing attention our way. A group of omegas passed us bowing their heads and whispering quietly. I had forgotten that I had made a scene in front of everyone.
I cleared my throat, “Can you two help?” I handed them each a seat. I took Lotus’s crutches from her, handing them back to Donnie. I lifted Lotus into my arms and took the stairs two at a time. She seemed surprised, attaching her hands around my neck, giggling. Her sisters laughed behind us, telling us to slow down.
Finally on the third floor, I kicked open our bedroom door. I walked inside and placed her on our bed. Her eyes were wide as she took in the room. We had a lounging area with a black suede couch, a coffee table and flat screen set up in the left bottom corner. In the left top a crib was standing up so that we had easy access to the children.
She eyed the door that was on the left side of the room. “It’s the pups’ room. I don’t want them all the way down the hall where the nursery is. They can stay the night in here where we can see them, and they will be safe since there is only one entrance to their room. She smiled and nodded her head in appreciation. “Do you want to see the closet and bathroom?” “Yes!” her sisters screamed from the doorway.
Laughing, I lifted her up and walked over to open the double doors to the closet. “Holy s**t!” all three of them shouted. The closet was ginormous and thickly stocked with shelves and drawers. My side was filled with my suits and every day wear. There were shoe cubbies that lined an entire wall, cabinets that opened up and held ties, watches and belts. There were even lounging chairs and a few coffee tables. It was all Violet’s idea; I would have to thank her when she came back. Lotus swiveled her head to gawk at me. “How many shoes can fit on that wall?” she asked. “About 100, I think.” The girls gasped again, then continued to talk all at once.
Lotus seemed so happy. I never wanted her to be sad again. She was mine and no psycho bastard was going to take her from me. I clenched my fist, drawing her attention. She tilted her head and reached her arms up. I lifted her up and she bent her head into my neck, inhaling deeply. “You smell good.” she stated, her hazel eyes peering into me. “So do you.” I replied dumbly.
She giggled, “I want to take a shower please.” I carried her over the bathroom and sat her down on the edge of the tub. Our bathroom had a big claw-foot tub and was wide enough for two. Our large walk-in shower had glass domed walls and a tiled bench inside. The his and her sinks were marbled brown, and our towel sets were gold and purple.
“I could live here.” she commented, a bit breathless. Her sisters walked in and continued to squawk with her. “Brantley said yours was better but this is so over the top!” Lily complained. “Don’t worry we can all have a bath night when my foot heals. Just like the bathhouse in Tokyo.” Lotus reassured them both. I put down one of my t-shirts and a pair of boxers, letting Lotus know to change into them when she was done.
I walked out to check on the pups and Donnie. He had them on the bed, they were doing “tummy time” as Lily called it. Autumn pushed herself up on her chubby arms, giving me a big drooly smile. I laughed, laying down with them. I heard the twins come out and say they would be back later after Lotus was done.
I must’ve drifted off to sleep because I woke to the sound of Lotus hopping around the room. I peeped one eye open to see her curly wet hair wrapped up and her small body drowning in my shirt. I let my gaze linger lower and saw that her hips were stretching my shirt out tightly before the rest of it fell below her waist. I inwardly groaned. I wanted her now more than ever.
I scanned the rest of the room and saw that Donavon was watching tv on the couch, the babies were asleep in the crib. A loud pounding came to the door. Donnie got up and answered it. He was whispering furiously with whoever was on the other side. Lotus hopped over to the bed and sat next to me, I pulled her in close, trying to avoid the cloth on her head.
Donnie sounded exasperated; he was clearly losing the argument. “Who is it?” I bellowed. Donnie was promptly pushed aside, my mother raging in past him. “Devlin Anthony Frost!! Where are they?!” she shouted. Lotus jumped in my arms and one of the pups immediately started to wail. “Way to go Mom!” I hissed. I rolled across the bed, and reached into the crib, picking August up. Apparently, his sisters were heavy sleepers.
I heard my mother’s footsteps behind me. She was embracing Lotus, letting tears fall down her face. Lotus seemed confused but didn’t push her away, she slowly patted her back. I walked around the bed to pry my mother off her. “Mom, stop you’re gonna suffocate her.” mom pulled back, keeping her hands on Lotus’s shoulders. Lotus’s head was swinging back and forth staring at us. “Baby, this is my mother, Abigail Frost.”
Lotus
My mouth hung open as Devlin casually introduced his mother to me. “I-It’s a pleasure to meet you ma’am.” I stammered, holding out my hand. She pushed it aside and pulled me into another hug. “Just call me Abbie sweetheart. We are family now!” she continued to cry. I awkwardly patted her back, waiting for her to calm down.
“When Brantley told me that Devlin met his mate, impregnated her, then walked away; I wanted to kill him! I’ve never been so angry with my son in my life. That is not how we raised him! Please don’t leave him. Please stay and be happy with us.” she begged. I was at a loss for words.
“Do you accept me?” I asked, my voice sounding distant. She pulled back to look me in the eye. “Of course I do!” I felt a tear run down my face. Abigail was a beautiful woman. She had sandy brown hair, a sharp nose, thick lashes and pale blue eyes. Devlin had inherited a lot from her. “Thank you.” I choked out as she pulled me back in, and I returned the embrace.
Devlin cleared his throat, “Mom, do you want to meet your grandson?” Abbie swung around in my arms, nearly knocking me back. I chuckled; I would take that as a yes. Devlin handed August over to her. Her eyes still gleaming with tears. “His name is August.” I told her. She touched his sandy brown hair and pinched his chubby cheeks. “Oh, he looks just like his grandpa.” she cooed, kissing his other cheek. “Oh Devlin, he reminds me of you when you were a pup.”
Devlin puffed his chest out and I rolled my eyes. “Abbie, would you like to meet the girls?” I asked. Her head snapped up so fast, I thought it would pop off. “Girls?” she whispered. I nodded my head, “Yes, we had triplets.” Her eyes rolled back, her body going limp. I caught August while Devlin caught his mother. He rolled his eyes, “I’m sorry she has a flair for the dramatic.” He gently slapped his mother’s cheeks, telling her to wake up.
Abbie’s eyes flew open and she stood back up. “I-I’m so-sorry. Um, hold on.” she murmured trying to catch her breath. “I’m so sorry. Brantley didn’t mention triplets, all he said was heir!” I laughed at her disheveled state. “Oh, I’m going to kill him!” she was seething in anger.
“So, do you want to meet them?” I asked again. She vigorously nodded. We walked her over to the crib and she looked down on the sleeping girls. She brought her hand over her mouth and quietly sobbed. “The one with brown hair is Summer, the black hair is Autumn.” “Oh, sweetheart they are beautiful.” she looked up at me, tears running down her cheeks. “Thank you.” she said. I smiled knowing that the pups had more people to love.
Another knock came to the door, a large man that looked like Devlin walked in. He was tall, had a firm chin, square jaw and dark green eyes. “I’m sorry son. I told her to wait but she practically flew up the damn stairs.” Devlin turned and embraced him. “Is that my grandson?” he asked, his voice gruff and his eyes watered. I walked over to him, placing August in his arms. He stared at August, completely transfixed.
“He’s got my eyes.” he said. He looked up at me, “I’m Devin, this i***t’s father.” I laughed; Devlin frowned. “It’s a pleasure to meet you. I’m Lotus.” He gave me a hug, squishing August who squirmed at the pressure. “Lotus. Thank you for coming to us. Welcome to the family.” He squeezed me a little more before releasing his hold.
“Devin, come meet your granddaughters.” Abbie called to him. His face scrunched up in confusion. “Granddaughters?” he squeaked. “Yes, you dodo bird! Granddaughters.” Devin gave August back to me and took shaky steps over to the crib. He looked down, finally letting his tears fall. Devin and Abbie hugged each other while they murmured to themselves.
Donnie walked behind us, tapping Devlin on the shoulder. “Elder Regan has returned. He is requesting to speak with you.” Devlin’s face turned serious. He asked his parents to watch the children and they waved us off, taking August with them. Devlin grabbed my legs, swinging me up and headed out of the room. He clearly didn't care that I was half naked or still had a towel on my head. I guess Elder Regan has seen me in worse shape.
