CHAPTER 23 BRETT The early flight back to Kansas City is uneventful. After telling Mom I had a baseball emergency back home, she didn't ask questions and with my father busy with his business in New York (whether that was screwing clientele out of their money or just plain screwing the clientele), I was able to get my bags, pay for my flight and breeze out of there before anyone noticed I was even back. The airport terminal also gives me the chance to use a fat stack of unused cash from the envelope from Dad's desk to pay for a first-class ticket home. I catch the 1:20 flight to Kansas City.
