The war council convened at dawn.
Clara stood beside Darius at the head of the obsidian table, her silver eyes scanning the faces of the Lycan generals gathered before her. Theron was there, his scarred face grim. Aldric, the young warrior who had accompanied them on their journey. And a dozen others, their expressions ranging from skepticism to quiet respect.
"The Blackwood Pack is mobilizing," Theron reported, unfurling a map across the table. "Alpha Killian has been gathering allies from neighboring packs. He's spreading lies about the Lycan Kingdom, claiming we are a threat to all wolf-kind."
Clara's jaw tightened. "He's preparing for war."
"It appears so, My Queen," Theron said. "Our scouts report that he has amassed an army of at least five hundred warriors. And he's been spreading propaganda among the packs, painting you as a traitor who abandoned her pack for power."
Darius's hand found Clara's under the table, squeezing gently. "He's afraid," Darius said. "He knows Clara's power is growing. He's trying to destroy her reputation before she can destroy him."
Clara looked at Darius, gratitude flooding her chest. He always knew exactly what to say.
"Then we need to act first," she said, her voice steady. "We need to show the packs that Killian is the liar, not me."
The next morning, Clara stood before a gathering of Lycan warriors.
Darius had called them together, hundreds of Lycans from across the kingdom. They filled the courtyard of the Obsidian Keep, their faces expectant, their amber and gold eyes fixed on her.
Clara's heart pounded. She had never spoken to a crowd this large. But she squared her shoulders and stepped forward.
"My name is Clara Wright," she began, her voice ringing out across the courtyard. "Many of you have heard the lies that Alpha Killian has been spreading. He claims I am a traitor. A power-hungry wolf who abandoned her pack for a crown."
A murmur rippled through the crowd.
"Let me tell you the truth," Clara continued. "I was an Omega in the Blackwood Pack. The lowest of the low. On my eighteenth birthday, my fated mate rejected me. He threw me out of the pack like garbage, leaving me to die in the rogue lands."
She paused, her silver eyes blazing.
"I survived. My Lycan blood awakened, and I discovered that I am the last surviving princess of the Lycan royal line. I found my true mate Darius, your King and I embraced my destiny."
She stepped closer to the edge of the platform, her voice growing stronger.
"Alpha Killian is afraid," she said. "He's afraid of what I represent. He's afraid of a world where Omegas can rise, where the weak can become strong, where women are not crushed beneath the weight of tradition. He spreads lies because the truth terrifies him."
The courtyard was silent. Clara met the eyes of the Lycan warriors, one by one.
"I did not come here to destroy your kingdom," she said. "I came here to help build it. I am not a traitor. I am a survivor. I am your Queen. And I will fight alongside you to protect everything we hold dear."
For a moment, no one moved.
Then, one warrior stepped forward a massive Lycan with silver-streaked hair and a scar across his cheek. He bowed his head, his fist pressed to his chest.
"Long live the Queen!" he roared.
The courtyard erupted. Hundreds of voices echoed his words, filling the air with a thunderous roar.
"Long live the Queen! Long live the Queen!"
Clara blinked back tears, her heart swelling with pride. Darius stepped up beside her, his hand on her back, his smile radiant.
"Your people love you," he murmured.
Clara smiled, her silver eyes shining. "And I will love them forever."
That evening, Darius came to Clara's chambers.
She was sitting by the window, looking out over the mountains. The sun was setting, painting the sky in shades of gold and crimson.
"May I sit?" Darius asked.
Clara nodded, and he settled beside her, their shoulders touching.
"You were magnificent today," he said. "I've never seen anyone speak to the warriors like that."
"They needed to hear the truth," Clara said.
"Yes. But they also needed to see who you are, strong, courageous, and completely unbreakable. You gave them that."
Clara looked at him, her silver eyes soft. "I couldn't have done it without you."
Darius smiled, taking her hand. "I wish you would see what I see, Clara. You are extraordinary. Not because of your power, or your title, or your bloodline. You are extraordinary because of who you are."
Clara's heart swelled. "Thank you, Darius."
He leaned in and pressed a soft kiss to her forehead. "Always, my Queen."
The weeks that followed were filled with preparation.
Clara trained daily, her skills growing sharper with each passing day. She learned to fight with a sword, a spear, even a bow. She learned to command troops, to read maps, and to strategize.
Darius was constantly amazed by her progress. "You're learning faster than any warrior I've ever trained," he said one morning, watching her spar with Theron. "You were born for this."
Clara grinned, wiping sweat from her brow. "I was born for a lot of things, apparently."
"Never doubt that."
She took his hand, her silver eyes shining. "I don't, as long as I have you."
Theron, pretending to be offended, cleared his throat loudly. "When the two of you are finished being nauseating, we have work to do."
Clara laughed, pulling away from Darius. "Yes, General. Back to work."
A week later, the first reports came in.
Killian's army was on the move. They were marching toward the Obsidian Keep, planning to launch a surprise attack.
"We need to be ready," Clara said at the war council. "He's coming for us."
"We will defend our kingdom," Darius said. "Our warriors are ready."
Clara met his eyes. "I want to lead the first charge."
Darius opened his mouth to argue, then closed it. He could see the determination in her gaze. "Are you sure?"
"I survived my first battle in the rogue lands," she said. "I can survive this."
Darius nodded slowly. "Very well. But I will be right beside you."
Clara smiled. "I wouldn't have it any other way."
The night before the battle, Clara couldn't sleep.
She stood on the battlements, staring out at the dark forest below. The wind howled, carrying the distant sound of wolves.
Darius joined her, his arm wrapping around her shoulders.
"What's wrong?" he asked gently.
"I'm afraid," Clara admitted. "Not dying, I've accepted that risk. But I'm afraid of losing you. I'm afraid of losing everything we've built."
Darius pulled her closer. "You won't lose me, Clara. I will always find my way back to you."
"How can you be so sure?"
He smiled, pressing a kiss to her hair. "Because I have waited a century to find you. I'm not about to let anything take you away."
Clara leaned into him, letting his warmth chase away the cold. "I love you, Darius."
"I love you too, Clara," he whispered. "Forever and always."
