Weeks turned into months.
Clara had settled into her role as Queen with a grace that surprised even herself. She attended council meetings, greeted visiting dignitaries, and oversaw the integration of the Blackwood Pack into the Lycan Kingdom. It was exhausting work, but she loved every moment of it.
But something was changing inside her.
It started with small things: a wave of nausea in the morning, a strange craving for foods she had never liked before. She dismissed it at first, blaming stress and exhaustion.
Then she missed her moon cycle.
Clara stared at the calendar, her heart pounding. It couldn't be. It was too soon. She and Darius had only been bonded for a few months.
But the signs were undeniable.
She didn't tell Darius at first. She wanted to be sure.
She went to the healer, an elderly Lycan woman with wise golden eyes and a gentle touch. The healer examined her, then smiled.
"Congratulations, My Queen," she said. "You're with child."
Clara's breath caught. "I'm pregnant?"
"Yes. About two months along. The baby is healthy and strong."
Clara placed her hand on her stomach, tears streaming down her face. She was going to have a baby. She and Darius were going to have a child.
"Does the King know?" the healer asked.
"Not yet," Clara said, her voice trembling with emotion. "I wanted to be sure first."
"Then go tell him. He deserves to know."
Clara found Darius in his study, reviewing documents.
He looked up when she entered, a smile spreading across his face. "Clara. You're back. How was the healer?"
She walked toward him, her heart racing. "Darius, I have something to tell you."
"What is it?" he asked, his brow furrowing with concern. "Are you alright?"
"I'm more than alright." She took his hands in hers, her silver eyes shining. "I'm pregnant. We're going to have a baby."
For a moment, Darius didn't move. He just stared at her, his amber eyes wide with shock.
Then a smile broke across his face, a radiant, joyful smile that made her heart soar.
"A baby?" he repeated, his voice hoarse with emotion. "We're having a baby?"
"Yes," she laughed, tears streaming down her cheeks. "We're having a baby."
Darius pulled her into his arms, lifting her off her feet and spinning her around. "I'm going to be a father," he said, his voice filled with wonder. "A father."
Clara laughed, holding onto him. "Put me down, you madman!"
He set her down gently, his hands cradling her face. "I love you, Clara," he said, his voice thick with emotion. "I love you more than I ever thought possible."
"I love you too," she whispered. "And I love this baby. Our baby."
The news spread quickly through the castle.
Everywhere Clara went, she was met with congratulations and well-wishes. The maids fussed over her, the warriors bowed with respect, and the nobles showered her with gifts.
But there was one person whose reaction mattered more than anyone else's Eli.
Clara found him in his tower, playing with his toy soldiers. He looked up when she entered, his eyes bright with curiosity.
"Mommy, what's wrong?" he asked. "You look funny."
Clara knelt beside him, her heart swelling with love. "Nothing's wrong, little one. I have some news for you."
"What news?"
"Remember how I told you that I love you more than anything in the world?"
Eli nodded seriously. "Yes."
"Well, I'm going to have another baby. That means you're going to be a big brother."
Eli's eyes widened. "A big brother?"
"Yes. You're going to have a little brother or sister to play with."
He thought about it for a moment. Then his face broke into a grin. "Can I teach them how to fight?"
Clara laughed, pulling him into a hug. "When they're older. For now, you can teach them how to be kind. And brave. And strong."
"Like you?" he asked.
"Exactly like me."
That night, Clara lay in Darius's arms, her hand resting on her stomach.
"I still can't believe it," she murmured. "I'm going to be a mother."
"You're already a mother," Darius said softly. "Eli loves you more than anything."
"I know. But this is different. This is our child."
Darius pressed a kiss to her hair. "Our child. The heir to the Lycan Kingdom."
"What if it's a girl?"
"Then she'll be the most powerful Queen this kingdom has ever seen."
Clara smiled, her heart full. "I love you, Darius."
"I love you too, Clara," he whispered. "And I will love our child with everything I have."
