Marcus went completely still. His face turned white, then red, then white again. "That's impossible," he said, but his voice shook. "I've seen that boy before." Everyone in the car turned to look at him. Smith had parked near the dead trees, but nobody moved to get out yet. "What do you mean?" Tamara asked. Marcus pulled out his phone. He scrolled through photos. Old ones. "When Elena first joined our pack, she had boxes of stuff. Photos. Papers. I helped her move them to storage." He found what he was looking for and held up the phone. "This photo. She said it was her son who died as a baby." The photo showed a young boy, maybe three years old. Dark hair. One eye silver, one eye gold. Playing with wooden blocks. Tamara's heart stopped. "That's him. That's Theo. But older than a baby
