*Victor's Point of view*
I am 29 and still haven't been able to find a mate. That's a considerable shame for an indestructible, chosen alpha of one of the iconic wolf packs of the region.
Well, this ill-starred star came with a prophecy, a prediction from the Blue Moon Goddess, to detach a throbbing curse.
All the women in my pack were doomed to be infertile by an occult two decades ago. Since then, they have failed to produce babies. Our ingenious doctors endeavour to treat them in every possible scientific way.
Every home in my pack has wacky muted crestfallen vibes that stab my heart every time I visit any of my pack members. Their buoyant eyes keep on asking me how long it will take to find my mate. How long do they have to endure this pain of not having kids, and not making their perfect family picture look complete?
I hate this helplessness of mine.
I lost my parents a few years back and the only friend and family I have is my beta, Kang.
He is the one who always emboldens me and keeps me pleasant in times of loss.
We have both lost our parents in a common rogue war and, since then, we both have been bonded as brothers. His father was also beta to my alpha father and we both grew up together.
A week ago, we meticulously speculated on all the possible ways to look for my mate and at that time we came to the conclusion that I should move out and try to club hands with the faraway positioned packs. We both had a common strong intuition that by this way we would get alliances from more and more packs and I also got to see more female werewolves and perchance feel my mate's bond with any of them.
I was pursuing my journey placatingly, affirming my manifestation of getting a chosen mate, when Kang's mind-link message barged in retorting me from my mission to uncover my mate.
The message shook me for a moment and, without ceasing the list of packs, I withdrew my journey and flew back to my pack.
I was overwrought to see my mate, I was craving her scent and my wolf, Leo, was on the moon fascinating his she-wolf.
"Leo, don't set high goals." I keep on forewarning him and that warning is more for me.
I eventually started daydreaming about my girl and I finally landed at our regional airport.
As always, Kang appeared to pick me up from the airport and remained silent all his way back to the pack.
His silence made the situation intense for me because I wanted to know more about her, like how she looks. What makes them all think that she could be their chosen Luna? What qualities does she endure to be my mate?
I tried to plaster my curiosity and remain a stoned face. The same goes for Kang, who usually wasn't that calm and silent.
Okay, no issues, I know it's his turn to tease me, but it's okay. I keep saying this in my head.
This one-hour journey from the airport to the pack seems the longest drive of my life.
We finally reached and heaving a deep sigh out. I jumped out of the car and followed Kang to the alpha house.
He took me to the basement of the house.
Kang is as tall as I am and that's why, while following him, I couldn't see the scene in front.
He pulled her up and my heartache looking at that messy, skinny, pale girl, who could barely stand on her feet.
"She can never be my mate." Those were the words that instantly came out of my throat.
"I couldn't believe I was called back from a significant task because of this messy being," I yelled, throwing my hand in the air.
I was shattered and my brain was flooded with all the suspicion about this unknown girl. The last conclusion was that this could be a trap for me. The rivalry pack planted her so that I couldn't reach my mate and failed to detach my pack from the curse. They want our pack to be demolished without any inheritors.
Kang tried a lot to convince me, but all explanations and stories about the girl went in vain.
The only thing I felt bad about this girl was her bleeding wounds and bruises that were surely given to her by my pack guards.
I don't want to be mean to her, not even if she is a spy. It's not her fault she is trying to be loyal to her pack.
Shoving my disconcertment and regrets, I perched next to her.
She was pale, hollow-cheeked, covered all over in bruises and her long black hair looked like frizzy dregs that can never be detangled.
I thought of having a peaceful interrogation with her. I tried to be polite and softhearted because sometimes your warmth can break the strongest warrior rather than violence.
There is only one strange thing I felt about Leo, which is that he is not at all disappointed. He was calmly observing the girl.
Leo's behaviour is muddling me more than this girl's and there I initiated a secret conversation with Leo.
"What are you thinking, Leo?" I asked him.
"Nothing, I am just observing her.' he calmly replied.
"For what?" I questioned him again.
"She is different," he answered.
"Shut up, Leo, don't be ridiculous, what is different about her?" I frustratedly asked him.
I kept on rolling my eyes all over her. Every time I look at her, I feel disgusted.
"Ask her name," Leo persisted.
"I would rather ask for forgiveness, which is much needed at this time," I said and kneeled in front of her asking for forgiveness.
and our eyes met, her garnet eyes sparkled. She was looking into my eyes and she seemed to seek into fantasy and she smiled, a talismanic smile though I allured and chuckled.
What is happening to me? I asked myself
I again asked for forgiveness and also tried to get rid of this strange girl at the earliest.
Leo overpowered me and forced me to ask her name.
The moment she answered, "Dalia."
Leo softly growled, "She is the chosen one!" and listening to that, my temper shot up and I retorted his words.
"SHE CAN NOT BE MY MATE! YOU CAN NOT BE THE CHOSEN ONE!"
" It's unbelievable !" I growled, running out of the place.
I was choked up at the prospect of having a human mate. I immediately shifted, and Leo dashed into the woods. Leo continues to persuade me. Soon, we were both engaged in a heated debate.
“You must give her a chance, Victor,” Leo pleaded.
"No way! I didn't wait this long for such a filthy mate," Goddess Moon cannot be callous to me." I growled.
“She is not a human. She has a talismanic aura and an enticing scent.” He stopped running.
I transformed.
“Humans never made me feel that way. She is unique.” Leo blushed as he surely fantasized about her.
“Yeah, I agree, she is different from the rest of us,” I replied in agreement.
“Leo, how are you going to accept her? Hope you have speculated that she will never shift into a wolf. You guys won’t be able to go for long runs in the woods.” I attempted to bring Leo to reality.
After hearing that, Leo seemed befuddled and went mute.
I realize now that he will understand my perspective.
Why can’t I have a human mate? It’s not only about me, it's also about him. I cannot be selfish. My pack has high expectations for me.
Above all, how does a powerless mate go to help me uplift the curse?
“Let her stay in the pack for a while,” Leo suggested.
“Oh jeez, Leo, you are so stubborn.” I groaned.
“What the hell is wrong with you, buddy?” I jerked at Kang’s voice.
“Kang, I apologize for my behaviour at the time, but you tell me how can I accept a fragile, powerless girl as my mate, as your Luna?" Please answer me
"Your doubts and anxiety are significantly understandable." He said, patting my shoulder.
"One thing you should try and comprehend is that none of us had such an instinct earlier. If we had such a strong approach towards her. She should be given the benefit of the doubt, not only for her but for us," he sensibly said.
I still couldn't assure myself of the same.
"What do you want me to do?" I cluelessly asked
"Just do us a favour, allow that girl to stay in the Packhouse up until the Red moon mating night." he softly said, wrapping his arm around my shoulder.
"What?" I yelled, yanking his hand away from my shoulder.
"Please, "he pleaded, folding his hands and giving those puppy eyes.
Leo asked for the same favour too.
Thinking for a couple of moments
I accepted their request.
"Alright, she will stay in the Packhouse under your supervision and she should keep a distance from me," I emphasized the last part.
"Wohoo...That's like my brother!" Kang joyfully yelled, wrapping me in a hug.
We ran back to the Packhouse.
"You can make provision for her stay with one of the omega."
"Kang, make sure you always have an eye on her. I still can't trust that girl," I boldly ordered.
"Don't worry, I will always be there" and I asked Bruna to help her get familiar with the environment." He confidently replied.
"Good."
"I need to have some alone time, so excuse me and don't let anybody disturb me,"I said, heading towards my room.
He bowed in agreement with an ear-to-ear grin.
Kang knows how to manipulate me and comforts me in tough situations.
I climbed the stairs to my room and stepped in.
I drop to my bed. I am unable to accept my ill fate.
"Leo, why is this happening to us?"
"Why do I have to sacrifice my wishes?
"Why can't I be at peace with my surroundings?"
"Why?"
I asked numerous questions, looking at the empty ceiling.
"I never decorated my room, every wall was left plain and empty, because I always wanted my mate to decorate our room with fresh memories." sadness keeps on accumulating more and more with all those wishes I made earlier for my love life.
I feel like giving up on all those wishes.
The darkness surrounded me, I closed my eyes and soon I slipped into sleep.
