"We should hope that your car is still good enough for a ride" Jay King said.
"I don't think the wolf did much damage to it" Grace answered.
"Well then, let's get going before more of them smell us out"
Jay King went into the car and fortunately, it started and they drove out of the woods to the main road.
Grace started to have her doubts, although she couldn't ask Jay directly but she knew there's off about him.
"How come there are so many wolves suddenly? They are worse here than home" Grace asked.
"Do you believe in fantasy, m'lady?"
"The name is Grace. Why do you ask?"
"Cause those creatures, they are werewolves. There may be rouges of them but most times, they hunt in packs" Jay answered
"Wow you seem to know so much about them? Grace asked suspiciously
"Wisdom is the key to knowledge, is it not? It's been a while since the werewolves are around. What are you doing out here anyway? Where are you going?" Jay queried.
"Out of town, that's all I can say"
"You've been quarantined, I get it" Jay guessed "it happens to everyone that survived a werewolf attack. Your choice to run out of town having nowhere to go is a hard one"
Grace furrowed her brows, surprised by Jay's intel "how do you know so much?" She questioned
"I've been to many places, seen many things"
"So you like rogue or what?"
"If that's what you call it. There is a city nearby, I live there. Most runaways go there too, would you like me to take you there?" Jay asked.
"It's not like I have anywhere else to go"
"Then I must warn you, in that Coast city, nothing is as it seems, you just have to be careful and always have me as your backup until you survive alone" Jay advised.
"Why should I? I don't trust you" Grace questioned
"It's okay not to trust me yet, you should not trust anyone in Coast city either. Most people there are either werewolves, vampires or working for one of the two. You won't like to be a human blood bag" Jay explained
"Vampires? Do those things even exist?"
"You'd be surprised. If you decide to not stay in Coast city, I can drive you to anywhere you want tomorrow but tonight if you want, you sleep in my house" Jay said.
The rest of the ride is total silence except for a few times that werewolves bump into them but Jay is so skilled that he could dodge them by drifting the car.
Finally, Grace started to see houses, complexes, nightclubs and others. She was surprised that unlike home, these people walk freely even at night.
What surprises her more is Jay not stopping the car at any house but she kept her cool and held on to her gun.
Not long after, the car arrived in the yard of a house far from other homes. The place looks so big and luxurious but looks very modern. Grace was flabbergasted when Jay brought her into the house.
"Whose house is this?" Grace was forced to ask
"Mine. Why?"
"Thought you said you move around, how come you have a house as big as this?"
"I've made a few stops but it's been a while since I live in Coast city. Getting rich in Coast city is easy, depends on how dirty you can be"
"Oh, so you're dirty?" Grace questioned
"Young lady, we just met and I'm helping you. If you don't want my help, you can just leave and go wherever you want." Hay yelled loudly.
He dropped Grace's car keyon the table and left "Make your decision before I'm back"
Grace's heart almost jumped out of her mouth, she was scared as hell but she had no choice either. She toured the house, made sure she checked every room in the house to know how safe she was, then she went into the bathroom and took a bath, changed her clothes.
While waiting for Jay to be back, she sat in the living room and watched the news to know what's going on in Coast city and yes, it is as insecure as her home, maybe worse.
Not long after, Jay knocked the door and Grace opened it immediately.
"Hey, don't go opening the door anyhow without knowing who is there" Jay warned
"Oh, I-I already saw you through the window when you entered" Grace assured.
"Still…Anyways, I see you've made yourself comfortable. So what's your decision?"
Grace noticed that Jay brought in two bags of food
"How did you know I'm going to stay?"
"I didn't, I was gonna give it to you anyways" Jay replied.
"That's cool of you. I'm sorry I was being a b***h earlier, I just wanted to be sure I'm safe" Grace apologized.
"Oh no, you're not!"
"What!" Grace exclaimed and that made Jay laugh.
"Nowhere is safe in Coast city, you should be prepared for anything. And, you'll need a better gun".
Grace was stunned.
"The door in the left corner leads to the kitchen, set the table, I'll be back." Jay said and went upstairs
"Wow" Grace commented and did as she was told and waited at the table. She only started eating when Jay joined her.
"Ahhhh" Grace screamed her lungs out when Jay placed a gun the table
"Hey, try and scream less. The gun is for you, it's better than your pistol. It's fully loaded, I'll bring you some magazines soon" Jay said.
"Ok, thanks"
Both of them talked about all things and anything, about the city, about each other's secrets.
"I'm sorry about your cousin" Jay condoled.
"It's okay, I don't want to think about it or else I won't be able to get a good sleep" Grace said
"Speaking of sleep, It's been a little night and I'm very tired now, I'll be going to bed now" Jay said.
"Me too, good night" Grace said watching jay go upstairs
"Night" He replied
And there Grace saw the opportunity to confirm her hypothesis. She took the gun from the table and shot Jay in the back.
"Aaaaah, you are crazy, Grace" Jay growled.
The growling of his voice scared Grace to hell and she screamed.
"He's a Werewolf, the guy is a werewolf, he just growled like a wolf" Grace screamed and ran into the room she had picked earlier.
She stood before the doors and pointed her gun at the door. Her head was spinning thinking of what to do next.
Just then, Grace felt warm touch around her waist and then a hug
"Where are you going, miss?" The deep voice sounded
"Hah" Grace screamed, startled.
She knew those hands belonged to Jay, even though she managed to gun him before, she's not sure she's done any real damage. "How could he be here so fast?" Grace wondered.
Fear gripped her so much that her whole body was trembling as she was trying to break free from the hug.
Grade was sure she heard Jay growl when she shot him, she just doesn't know if he turned into a werewolf or not.
What difference will it make? Even this handsome human face is enough to kill Grace if he wanted to.
"I'm sorry, Let me go, please" Grace said with a trembling voice. Sweat broke out from her face and dropped on Jay's hand, that was when Jay realized the lady was scared to death.
"It's okay, all's good" Jay said and took his left hand off Grace and placed it on her shoulder caressing it hoping that she will calm down
Grace's breath started breaking. She held her fist courageously hoping to find a way to break free.
"Don't run Miss, there's danger downstairs. Your gunshot already attracted people to this place" Jay warned.
"I don't care, you are the real danger here and the real humans must be down there wanting to know who got hurt" Grace argued
"Hmm, you are willing to risk your life to find out? Didn't they say a known devil is better than…"
"Like you knew, you devil beast. Let me go Big Dog!" Grace interrupted and also mocked Jay.
"Big Dog?" Jay was shocked
Jay was taken aback with Grace's comment and Grace used the opportunity to break free from him.
"That's what you think werewolves are? Hmph" Jay questioned and then scoffed. He went to the window of the room and drew the curtains, "Take a look at what you call Big Dogs"
Grace does not trust Jay anymore so she's trying her best to stay away from him as far as possible.
However, curiosity got the best of her, she went to the window and looked down
Grace gasped at the sight of what she saw. She trembled so much that her teeth chattered. Suddenly she started feeling cold and her body was shaking. She could see five wolves already in the yard, they would be inside any minute.
But then, Jay's warm hand touched her "it's okay to be scared but right now, you need more than that. Remember I wanted to give you more magazines for the gun?"
"How do you manage to stay calm in situations like this?" Grace questioned furrowing her brows
"I need you to go to the second floor's master bedroom, check under the bed, you'll see different bullet magazines, search for the once named Barretta 92FS and bring it to me quick" Jay hastened but Grade stood still confusedly
Jay mistook Grace's confusion for lust and said "this ain't no time to stare at my handsomeness miss, you want to die?"
Grace got a hand on the situation, got out of the room and ran upstairs.
Just when she was out of sight, she heard a loud bang from the first floor, she knew it was the door that got broken down.
She could hear growling and gunshots which scares her but she summoned enough courage and get the magazine.
She started running back to the first floor but then stopped to think. 'What if she got killed? How's Jay fairing? Can Jay take in all the wolves? What happens to her if Jay die?
It's okay to be selfish and not want to die but if Jay dies, age stands no chance in this city.
Grace noticed it's been a while since he heard a gunshot, "Jay must be out if bullet"
She ran down the stairs, found Jay and shouted "Jay, Catch" she threw one of the magazines she took to Jay and hay caught it swiftly. Jay quickly load the bullet and took a sharp shot against the one remaining wolf and the wolf dropped dead.
"Shooting them in the head is more effective" Jay said. "By the way, what do you come to do here?" Jay asked and Grace was surprised.
"To help you finish them off" Grace answered courageously
Jay chuckled. He twitched his face mockingly and tried to hide it from Grace.
"What? You think I can't do it?" Grace questioned
"I guess you would have found out if you've killed me earlier" Jay answered mockingly
"Hey, I'm sorry I shot you. For a moment there, I thought you are a werewolf" Grace apologized
"What changed your mind now?"
"Seeing how you killed those wolves, I have no doubts now. Maybe we more alike, our hatred for those creatures is no different"
"Why will you say that? I don't hate them, they are humans too. I'm just protecting myself" Jay refuted.
"My cousin was the only family I have left and they killed him, like you said earlier, they killed your family too. They ended our life and all I want is to do the same" Grace argued loudly.
Grace sighed and calmed down "All I need is for you to teach me" Grace asked with a pleading face but Jay gave no response yet.
"You're wounded, I should help you clean it up" Grace said when she noticed the blood on Jay's clothes spreading.
"What, so you are a doctor now?" Jay asked with a tone of jest hoping to reduce the pressure in the room
"I went to medicine school to be a nurse, I do freak out when I see blood which is why I couldn't become one" Grace answered
"Haha, judging from the life you've lived, I'm sure you wouldn't be expecting something like this to happen to you"
"Life is unpredictable" Grace answered as she started taking clothes of Jay
"To think you were once scared of blood and now you're not afraid to spill it, it's funny" Jay mocked again.
"Jeez!"Grace exclaimed after taking off Jay's cloth and seeing his wound "that is a deep s***h"
"I've had worse"Jay responded.
"I'll help apply first aid on it, you have a med kit?"
"Sure I do, it's in my room" Jay said and then groaned
"Woah woah woah, calm down and let me assist you up" Grace said, she put Jay's hand across her neck and help him to the second floor
"You don't have to do this, I'm really okay" Jay said.
Grace didn't bother answering him till they got to Jay's room.
Jay laid down on his bed, and tell Grace where the med kit is.
Grace washed her hands and cleaned the wound, she put pressure on the wound with clean cloth for a few minutes and the bleeding stopped.
Once bleeding stopped, she rinsed the cut using a saline wound wash, Cleaned the area around the wound with soap and a wet washcloth. She used a pair of tweezers cleaned with alcohol to gently pick out the dirt and other material in the cut.
"That should be enough for now, it's an animal bite and seeing a doctor will be my medical advice" Grace advised
Grace then went silent taking a second look at Jay's body, she still had her hands on his stomach and unconsciously traced his abs with her fingers.
Jay's heart started beating very fast, he sat up the bed and looked at Grace
"Hey, Grace…"
Before Hay could say anything, Grace planted a deep kiss in his mouth and Jay responded. Without breaking the kiss, Grace took off her cloth
"I want this!" Grace whispered amidst the kissing
