Chapter Twenty-two EJ sat on Charlie’s bed and watched out the window as a Carolina wren built a nest in the gingerbread trim. The little bird would fly off and then return with a small stick, patiently arranging until it was satisfied and then repeat the process over again. Until Aunt Belle suggested that they should stay in Charlie’s house, EJ hadn’t seen much of the interior besides the parlor. She knew it had belonged to Charlie’s grandparents.
