Chapter Thirty-two “Come on with me,” Charlie said. She was dressed in coveralls with a light cloak. EJ followed her out to the front porch. Two horses waited by the practically new wagon. How did she manage that with a splint on her arm? Charlie put a package behind the seat. “You plan to join me?” She swung up easily, her injured arm of no hindrance. EJ appreciated her graceful movements and if pressed might admit that she was a little envious. She grabbed the edge of the wagon and pulled herself up. They rode along, holding hands, in relaxed silence. EJ considered how frightened she was to see Charlie injured after the accident. What would she do if something worse had happened? Shoot, she could get arrested by the taxman. How likely was that? Just a possibility or inevitable? She
