CHAPTER 10

ASTRID'S POINT OF VIEW My head and my body were aching still from shifting for the first time. I was panting slightly feeling panic start to rise in me, wanting to know what just happened, even though I knew the answer. I had a wolf that was special, Mathias had been spelling my father this whole time to get what he wanted and my mate was Fenrir. "Hello, Astrid, my name is Mona I am your wolf. I know this is new to you, but we need to save our mate right now." "How? Why? He's Fenrir, destroyer of worlds and the bringer of Ragnorok." "You know he was never meant to end up like that. If Odin didn't let his fear rule over him, everyone's fate would've been different." "Please explain, I want to save him but I need to know he isn't how the stories portray him." "You dreamt his story, you knew when he was born he was a good innocent soul, just a bit cocky. As he grew he became too big, too powerful for the gods liking and Odin betrayed him and chained him away. When he died in Ragnorok, the moon Goddess took his soul away to her plain, where she took his power and strength away. He would only get it back when he found his mate, and gradually as the bond grows but only if he keeps your love and trust and he looks after you the way a mate is meant to." "This is a lot to take in, you know that right?" "I do know that. But he will not harm you at all, he has made a promise to the moon goddess. He loves you dearly already, I can feel it radiating off him." "Is Erik his first human?" "Yes, he is. As you are mine. Me and him are made for each other. As you and Erik are made for each other." Her words were echoing inside my head as I tried to organize it all. The silence was deafening, my father had stopped yelling at Erik, who looked stunned and shocked. He looked adorable like that, a bit like a lost puppy, even his brothers looked wary about the situation but stood by their brothers' side definitely. "Chieftain Bard." Began Mathias with an evil grin, but I jumped in and in front of Erik before anyone could say anything else. "No, you do not get to speak! You spelled our chieftain!" I screamed at him. Most people looked shocked and concerned about my outburst, but Mathias was furious. "Princess, do you have any proof of that?" My father asked. "Well, nothing solid, but my wolf tells me it was him that put you in that state!" I say firmly. My father contemplated this for a moment, my words and all the actions over the past few days. He seemed to come to a conclusion. "We'll open an investigation and in the meantime, the accused will be detained, till judgement is passed. Geir if you could." My father says gesturing to Mathias. Mathias looked shocked and livid as Geir stepped forward and cuffed him. Mathias was about to speak but I beat him to it. "If you are not guilty you have nothing to worry about," I say smiling. Geir leads him away and Mathias glares daggers at me. I looked away from him, I saw Danny looking after Geir longly. Aww, cute they're mates, I thought. My father broke the silence. "Alpha Erik, you did not answer any of my questions." He said staring at my mate who started to look anxious again. "Chieftain Bard, I don't know the answers, my wolf has blocked me." He said. "Father. Fenrir isn't how the stories made him look, please believe me and give him a chance. He is my mate." I beg. I reached to grab Erik's hand, and it felt like an electric shock but very enjoyable. I smiled up at him and he smiled down at me with pride in his eyes and love written all over his face. I blushed only now realizing he was naked except for the blanket he had wrapped around him, I desperately wanted to press against him without the blanket in the way. I was shocked at my own thoughts and looked away embarrassed, trying not to pay attention to the hot tight feeling that had started to build in my torso. "Very well then." My father spoke, breaking my thoughts. "Alpha Erik, know this if you so much as upset my princess I will use your skin as my floor rug." My father promised. "Father!" I say indignantly, feeling even more embarrassed not sure if he was joking. "Chieftain Bard, if that ever happened I would walk myself to your door." Alpha Erik said, holding his hand out to my father. "Just Bard now, Alpha Erik." He said shaking Alpha Erik's outstretched hand. "Now go get clothes on before the birthday celebrations, they will start shortly." "Call me Erik." He said smiling. "Guess I better get back to the cabin." He chuckled. "Ahh, well, because of the challenge issued we can probably fit it in before we start the festivities, so there will be our traditional warrior outfit waiting for you." My father said casually. Oh, my poor hormones, would not be able to handle the sight of my mate wearing that. The thought made me hot and my lotus begin to weep. "Of course Bard, I'll go ready myself." He said and started to walk towards the entrance, still holding my hand. "I apologize Erik, but the healer still needs to check over Astrid, so she'll need to stay here." My father said, grinning. Alpha Erik looked conflicted but nodded reluctantly. He bent down to kiss me on my cheek, causing more electric shoot through the contact. "I'll be back for you my Angel." He growled playfully. I shivered and desperately wanted to go with him. "We're fine. We don't need a check-up! We can go with him and have some fun." I had to agree with Mona, I felt perfectly fine. "Father I feel fine," I tell him. "I'm sure you do, but I would rather air on the side of caution. Now I'm going to make sure your party preparations are going to plan, would you three like to help me?" He asked Alpha Erik's three brothers. The brothers nodded and all four of them left the longhouse. It was just me and the healer now, she approached me smiling. "So, how do you feel?" She asked. "I feel fine," I tell her honestly. "No, not about your first shift, I already know your fine along with your father." She said, smiling slyly. Oh. I felt my cheeks burn slightly and I looked away. Loki made an almost laughing sound, which made me jump, as I had completely forgotten he was on my shoulder still. "Shut it you." I snap at him, and he flys off my shoulder and out the doors, the healer chuckled at the exchange. "So, do you have any questions about anything?" She asks after she composes herself, raising an eyebrow with a knowing smirk. "Umm...Well, no, I don't think so." I say getting embarrassed. She gave me a questionable look before she nodded. "Very well, just know you can come to me if you do have any questions or queries. But just remember to not do something you are not one hundred percent comfortable with or something you feel pressured to do." She told me firmly and I nodded at her smiling. We walked out of the longhouse and saw a crowd had gathered around the circled sandpit, which we use for fights and challenges. We walked over and saw that nothing had started yet, but people were ogling my mates, three brothers. Danny looked really uncomfortable with all the attention from the unwanted females but was too polite to turn them down, while Logan and Camron looked like they were in their element. The sandpit was six meters all around and round the edge laid stones with runes on them, that put up a magical barrier to stop anyone running from or interfering with the fight going on inside it. My father saw me and brought the brothers with him as he made his way over to me. The many girls pouted when they walked away, and I couldn't help but chuckle at them all. "Are you sure you're ready for this? It can be taxing seeing your mate fight." My father says with concern all over his face. "I'd prefer it was not happening at all, I will be displeased if he gets hurt, but I'm confident Alpha Erik will win," I say truthfully. "Hey, sis. Word of advice, don't call him Alpha Erik in front of him, he wouldn't like." Danny tells me in a stage whisper. I'm confused, but nod. "Also, our brother hasn't lost any fights or challenges ever, even when he didn't have his wolf and I doubt he'd let anyone else win but him if it's you he is fighting for," Logan says, smiling at me. Camron is just chatting to a female who caught his attention, I roll my eyes at him. But thank Logan and Danny for their words. Soon the smell of pine trees reached me and I turned around and my legs nearly gave out. My lotus instantly felt like it was dripping and my skin heated up. He was shirtless, he looked like he was carved from marble and he was in tight leather pants that were almost like a second skin, you could see every curve and line in his legs and other places. His other places seemed big, too big for me, he wouldn't be able to fit! I would not survive this night with my purity or sanity intact.
