“Damn, he’s so fine and rude all at once,” Faith admired while looking back one more time as I tried to pull her arm.
All I wanted was for the night to end as quickly as possible, and it had already started terribly after I ran into Luciano, the exact person I had been trying to avoid.
Normally, I barely even saw him at the club, but of course, out of all the nights, it had to be today.
As always, the nightclub was filled with people ranging from partygoers looking to have fun to wealthy businessmen searching for entertainment.
Usually, I worked inside the VIP section because those businessmen tipped the most money.
But tonight, I wasn’t feeling up to it and stayed around the regular guests instead.
Truthfully, bartending and pretending to enjoy myself for money wasn’t the worst job in the world.
The only downside was the judgment.
The looks people gave me whenever they asked what I did for work.
Most people never expected someone quiet and shy like me to work in a nightclub.
For a second, I stopped what I was doing and looked down at my stomach while tuning out the loud music and flashing lights around me.
Only one thought filled my mind.
A woman knew her own body.
And deep down, I already knew I was pregnant.
There was no denying it anymore.
Yet here I was, still running around a nightclub like everything was normal when this was the last thing I should have been doing.
But no one else was paying my bills.
And I desperately needed money.
How did someone like me even end up pregnant?
Why did I even agree to a one-night stand in the first place?
“You look like shit.”
The familiar voice beside me pulled me out of my thoughts.
Frankie, the employee responsible for collecting my tips at the end of the night, stood beside me with crossed arms.
Frankie was actually a nice guy, but he was brutally honest and never afraid to say exactly what he thought.
“And you’ve looked like s**t for months now,” he continued. “Go home and rest or see a doctor.”
Honestly, leaving early would probably benefit both of us.
If I left, Frankie would also get to finish for the night sooner.
I glanced at the large clock hanging on the wall and realized it was already past midnight.
Slowly, I nodded my head.
It was enough for tonight.
I had probably earned enough tips already.
I patted Frankie lightly on the shoulder, thanked him, and hurried toward the dressing room while hoping not to run into anyone else.
“Squirrel, leaving already?”
The cheerful voice made me freeze instantly.
Closing my eyes for a brief second, I already knew who it was.
Enzo.
Unlike his brothers, Enzo always sounded way too cheerful.
I had two choices.
Ignore my boss and walk into the dressing room…
Or turn around and face him looking like complete death.
Obviously, ignoring my boss wasn’t exactly smart considering how badly I needed this job.
“Hey,” I greeted awkwardly while turning around.
Enzo’s eyes widened immediately.
Without warning, he placed his hand against my forehead, probably checking my temperature.
“Squirrel, you look like several sheets combined and mixed up together,” he commented seriously.
I stared at him blankly.
Enzo always spoke in the weirdest ways possible.
His words were either too advanced or made absolutely no sense to my tired brain.
Seeing my confusion, he sighed dramatically.
“You look terrible,” he translated.
I failed to hide my offended expression, causing him to laugh before giving me a sympathetic look.
His eyes slowly moved over my body, which was slightly shaking from exhaustion and the lack of clothing I was wearing.
“Luciano !” Enzo suddenly yelled toward someone behind me. “Come look at this. If you’re taking over the business one day, you seriously need to treat your employees better.”
The moment those words left his mouth, my entire body went stiff.
If I had known I would cross paths with Luciano for the second time tonight, I would have simply stayed home instead of coming to work at all.
