He didn’t realize how much he missed waking up on his bunk in The Event Horizon until he was actually able to do so.  Six months spent on a foreign planet with thin bedding and minimal comforts was considerably hard. Especially considering that the terrain was rough and the planet was so cold all the time. The Event Horizon felt like a resort after that torturous time. The room he shared with Eugene was empty, but that was no indication of whether it was early morning or late morning, since the younger generally rose earlier than everyone else.
