ANNA'S MATE

Chapter One

Anna's wolf, Star, had just finished her hunt when her heart suddenly missed a beat. She instantly looked in the direction of their pack.

Something's wrong with our mate. Star announces what Anna already knows as a fact. Let me run.

No. Anna's face was drawn with furrowed brows and tight lips but she strongly refused, with no room for argument.

She hurriedly put on her clothes and took off at a dead run. She jumped over logs and fallen branches and maneuvered her way around trees, pushing aside protruding branches out of the way until she arrived at the clearing ---in time to hear panic shouts and clamors for a doctor.

"Jared was attacked! Quick, summon the doctor!"

"Who attacked him?!"

"Where was he found?! s**t! Is that Jared's woman lying beside him?!"

"Could it be done by rogues?! But that's impossible. It could be those treacherous Silver pack!!"

Anna could hardly breathe, her ears were ringing loudly as she pushed her way through the surging crowd. Some grunted and growled at her and pushed her back, but she held her ground and did not budge. She continued to rudely push her way through as if swatting a group of flies.

Some of the bystanders were shocked to see a skinny fifteen-year-old girl pushing them off with such tremendous force. If the situation was not dire, they would have questioned the oddness. If they only paused and considered for a second, they would have realized, Anna not only used physical force but also exercised mental strength.

But seeing it was Anna, the crowd vaguely understood and rashly concluded. Maybe her strength came from the adrenaline rush stimulated by overwhelming anxiety and intense shock?

Anna is notoriously known as Jared's shadow. Who doesn't know how die hard she is on the Alpha's son? At the age of ten, she was already adamant that Jared was her mate.

Come on! She hasn't even gotten her wolf just yet. How can she be so sure, right? So they just let it pass and laughed it off. Anna is just a child anyway.

But who would have thought a ten-year-old child could be so determined to adhere closely to her belief and persist for five years? Now she is fifteen, already a young woman and still, she insists Jared is hers even without having her inner wolf ---her guardian and primal source of insight.

So, again, they just let it pass and laughed it off. Some scoffed at her, some looked at her like a sick joke, taunting her. While a few understood.

Who can blame a teenager for being fanatically obsessed with Jared? If the Alpha's son is ugly, then no one is beautiful! Jared is just simply drop dead gorgeous and he is second to none.

While the crowd is busy looking at Anna, their subject of contemplation has finally stood a few steps away from Jared.

Anna's legs softened into clay as she saw Jared's stomach, which was almost hollowed out! She could hardly hear his heartbeat!

No. No. Anna repeatedly shakes her head in denial. She is about to lose him!

With this realization, her eyes turned red and her legs finally gave up. Her knees folded and she knelt down on the hard ground with a loud thud. With Jared's pulse getting faint, she can also feel her life force wanting to run away with him.

We can't lose our mate! Star frantically shouted.

Anna and her wolf were absorbed by Jared's critical state, but the people around her cringed. Hearing Anna's knees popping in painful protest, they stroked their own knees as if they felt the pain as their own. Some even flinched and grimaced. While some eyes were wide and complicated. Anna's face showed no signs of her pain. Instead, she is deeply focused on Jared's body, not minding her own body's pain.

How deeply does she love Jared that she isn't even aware of her knees hurting? That loud thud is painful!

But Anna doesn't care about what others think of her. She crawled until she knelt beside Jared.

"Anna, stay away from Jared! The doctor will arrive soon. Don't make things worse."

"Yes, child. What do you know about healing? Leave it to the doctors." A lady kindly advised Anna.

"Anna, don't complicate things. Stay back!"

"What are you doing?! b***h, it's not a time to show your nauseating affection for him. Even if he knows, he won't appreciate it. Leave!"

"Somebody call Anna's parents! Ask them to take their daughter away and not make a nuisance here!" Someone angrily bellowed from the crowd. "The situation is grim enough without her adding trouble into the mix!"

"Yes, Anna. The doctor is almost here. Don't be impulsive and stay back!"

Everyone in the crowd vehemently objected to Anna's action and some even cursed her. But Anna drowned everyone's opinions at the back of her mind. She closed her eyes and muted their voices. She centered herself and looked deep inside her. Summoning her green energy from her feet, to her belly, to her arms, to her palms.

When she could feel the surging heat in her palms, she took a deep breath and placed her hands on the hole in Jared's abdomen.

When people saw Anna putting her hands over Jared's abdomen, they growled menacingly in warning. Some men with dark faces impatiently stepped forward. Ready to pull her off from Jared.

But when they were about to put their hands on Anna and teach her a lesson, they jumped in fear. They heard a furious roar that almost made their souls fly away in fear. A roar like booming thunder that is coming closer.

"The alpha is coming!" A terrified woman shouted in panic. The alpha's roar sounds like a feral wolf!

If they are seen close to Anna, they will have no place to cry. They will become innocent casualties when their Alpha unleashes his wrath!

In no time, the Alpha appeared with the head and claws of his wolf and the rest of his body in human form. The tyrannical pressure surrounding the alpha almost suffocated them to death!

The Alpha arched his head back, his arms stretched far back and roared his anguish to the skies. His cry made the crowd tremble and they huddled close to each other in restlessness and fear.

When the Alpha had vented a portion of his fury, his face turned back to a human head. The crowd were shaking in terror seeing the bleeding red eyes and fiery look the Alpha threw at them.

"Jared..." The Alpha called faintly with a mixture of worry and anger. When he zeroed in on where Jared laid flat on the ground, he saw a young girl kneeling in front of his son with her hands covering his open abdomen with her palms open.

He frowned. Anna?!

His cold eyes squinted slightly for a split second, then in a blink, he breathed an imperceptible sigh of relief. He then faced the crowd.

"What the hell happened?!" He eerily asked with a cruel glint in his eyes. His voice was Arctic cold.
