Chapter 2: Irene

307 Words
“Ms. Irene Claire Montefalco, this is Mr. Michael Alistair Ford Dominggo”, I couldn’t even recognize who was introducing me as my gaze is fixed on the person standing in front of me. My attention was her and hers alone. She stood tall with confidence, perfectly curled green hair, teal eyes looking at me intently and a miniscule smile on her face. She's been doing well, I smiled at her and nodded in recognition. As our hands touched, it wasn’t the same feeling. Her warmth didn’t touch my heart the same way as it did before. Her touch is not special anymore, just like other people in this room, she is not someone who holds a significant place in my heart. It was a given, the deal was approved. As people go around to congratulate the new partnership, her teal eyes followed my figure, smoothly she maneuvered her way to my side. “How have you been?” she asked and I couldn’t help but chuckle, so she still cares, just like how I do. “Better than ever” I looked at her smiling, it wasn't the whole truth but my response isn't a lie either. “Congratulations, you did spectacular", she borrowed my hands and drew circles on it in a soothing manner. It was an action she always does, a habit. “Who do you take me for?” I joked and we both laughed. This is better than nothing and I am sure that I am doing better than ever. I've learned to accept reality and settled with letting go. She's still the woman I loved very dearly but there's no use with holding on when she already let go of me. My one sided love ends here. "Mikael, can I perhaps get your number?" or will it really end here?
